A friend of mine just got XP put on her computer and now it won't do anything.
She did say that she wasn't supposed to have XP. I guess they used someone elses disk, I don't know how that works. Anyway, my question is, does anyone know if by using it, that it would make the computer stop working?

I just figured they did something wrong when they put it on. Anyway, I thought I'd ask.

XP will only register on one computer. If your friend had it copied then it won't work. I believe if you want to use it on multiple computers you have to purchase more registration keys.

Also your friends computer may not be equipped for XP.

Thanks, I'll tell her tomorrow. Her hubby won't be too happy.

Purchased a laptop with XP HOME installed- the Home version was useless (for me, anyway) so had to downgrade to Windows 2000 which required different drivers all of which should be downloadable on their site (Microsoft's)...

...your friend's problem isn't particularly clear...there could be any number of reasons why it isn't working for her. Good luck and resist making prank calls to Microsoft.:)

She wasn't clear for me either. She knows nothing about them except she plays scrabble on it.
I was trying to guess at what the problem was and from what she told me, using a non registered XP sounds like it may be the problem.
At any rate, I will let her know what I found out.
