I am secretly planning :surfweb: our Dec trip from my DD 13 and DD11 (birthday trip). We have told them that we are going to Lanzarote in the same villa that we visit in August and that we cant afford Disney this year due to Credit Crunch !! DD13 says that she is sick of hearing about the CC :confused3 and why can't she switch her bedroom light on ........if only she knew :rotfl: We fly home on Xmas day, 19:30 VA - thus the cheap trip. We want to still have a nice xmas day, and have booked Portobello Y Club in DD for lunch after we have used V disney check in. What do you suggest for the next few hours till leave for airport 15:00 ish ?

The Portobello Yacht Club is one of the restaurants due to be given a makeover as part of the new-look Pleasure Island. I've no idea when work is due to start, although it wouldn't surprise me if it gets underway after the new T-Rex restaurant opens nearby (currently slated for November). That's pure speculation on my part though, with absolutely no basis in fact, so don't read too much (anything :teeth: ) into it.

As you're going to be at Downtown Disney, I'd be tempted to stay around there. You're not going to have long, so you don't want to spend time travelling to a park. Just take time to stroll around doing some last-minute shopping, or, if you're all shopped-out it's nice to walk along right down by the the waterfront on the West Side. Or how about mini golf? Fantasia Gardens is the closest, although neither are too far away - both are a straight drive down Buena Vista Drive (the main road passing Downtown Disney) and much easier to park up and access than one of the parks.

we also come back on christmas day.:santa:
have thought about booking somewhere for christmas dinner but the thought of spending christmas day in the pool is tempting me most as thats something i have never done before ............!!!

I'm a bit concerned now about the possible refurb of PYC. Should I make a reservation somewhere else instead :confused3 I am concerned that there will be no availability anywhere else on the day if I risk it. A wildcard was the buffet at Gaylord Palms taking in ICE ?

Don't get your hopes up too high for a day spent hanging out at the pool on Christmas Day because the weather can be unpredictable at that time of year. :headache:

Both times we have been in Orlando over Christmas, we've had reasonable enough weather most of the time but have needed warm jackets/rain gear on Christmas Day itself!

I agree - Christmas 06 er were in Universal - and boy did it rain! Boxing Day was also quite wet.

We were in Discovery Cove Christmas Day 06 and were dressed appropriately for the weather in wetsuits. We did find it very funny when DH's cake floated off the plate and into the foliage whilst the steel band played I Can See Clearly Now the Rain Has Gone!

:sad2: was trying not to think about the possibility of rain!!!! the last two years we have left on the 23rd december and i recall now that 06 wasnt amazing weather - still always the optimist :upsidedow

We also fly home Xmas day, we might all be on the same flight :D

One of the things I thought of doing is eating at McCoy's Bar and Grill in the Hyatt hotel at the airport. I've read a few decent reviews of this place and it means we can drop the car off and relax before flying home.

Perhaps the best place to be??

We are going to DC for the first time this December - so perhaps it won't matter what the weather's like :)

Yes Lets, first xmas in WDW this year :yay: and first xmas in Florida for about 12 or 13 years (was with parents then now going with hubby!)

We fly home boxing day!

I remember when I did go years ago it was cold and I don't even think we went in the pool once however I am praying for a miracle this year. Don't mind if its chilly early morning or late at night but would like to be able to sit at pool at least a couple of times and relax!

The main reason we are going is so we can experience the parks and resorts at xmas with the decorations up (cant wait to visit the gingerbread house at GF) at the end of the day if its cold then its cold, cant be worse that being at home! Can it?

Last November the kids were in the pool alot. It was really pleasant. I think that you have to keep an open mind and try to plan around the weather. So be aware of busy days etc but if the sun shines - make the most of it :worship: Anyway Mickey knows that we are coming - he will make sure that its o.k. :woohoo:
