Hi guys! We are trying to decided whether to spend Xmas at WDW or go to HH for Xmas and come back to WDW for Early January.
Would love to hear from anyone who has been there then..............what activities are there at the resort and on the island? Is there anything special at Shelter Cove on New Years Eve? Or at the resort?

Help?!!!

Just a short thread from a few of us who were at HH last year for NYE

There's tons of info on here re: WDW @ XMAS. We've gone during the month of December to experience some of the XMAS "magic", but personally have never been during the actual holiday week (too crowded for our personal liking). HH obviously on their off-season during this time of the year. Though I will say the island seemed fairly busy around New Year's as well as the resort. There is a whole slate of resort activities around NYE as well. Fairly tame, family-oriented stuff.

I agree with hmansure that HHI is slower during Christmas time especially compared to WDW. The Orlando parks have a lot more going on and you most likely know that Christmas-New Year have become one of the busiest times to be at WDW.
HHI is not as slow through the holidays as it was 5-10 years ago but it is still relaxing and all the restaurants are open with no to reduced waiting.
Be prepared for cool weather though the temps have been warm the last few years until mid January.

The reduced waiting at the restaurants is an excellent point!

What is the weather like at HHI during December (temp, precipitation, and wind)? We've been thinking about this for 2011.

Thanks! :)

Subcribing - we are going to be at HH the day after Christmas until either NYE or 1-2-11. My DH and some of the others joining us play golf and I thought we would take a day trip to either Charleston or Savannah. there will be a teenager in the group. Should we suggest he invite a friend?? he is used to traveling with just his folks, but I thought that having a friend would be more fun for him.
what types of activities will be going on or available that he might be interested in???

thanks for bringing this up :worship::worship:

If you toggle over to Mousecellaneous, there is a HHI info thread a mile long, I am sure most anwers about that time of year are answered in that thread. It is currently on page 5

Last year it was in the upper 50s our entire stay except for Jan 2 & 3 when a cold front pushed through and temps were in the mid 40s. Our kids were in the main pool on most of the days (even a big kid such as myself found myself in the water a couple of times :rotfl:). The hot tub broke down somewhere along the way and that didn't make many people happy!

FRront desk mentioned they maintain 82 degrees in the main pool during that time frame. I hope that is true. We have been to many places where they say the pool is "heated" but many times it was just passable for a brief swim.

We have stayed at AK over new years and becuase of tghe size of the pool at Jambo, it really never heated well at all. Pretty depressing

82 degrees? Not sure - it seemed a bit on cooler side, but I'm no expert... getting out was the tough part :) A few years back they were having problems with the pool heater, but as far as I know that's been corrected.

That sounds normal. the 82 degrees may be what the heater is pushing out but when you combine that with the temp. outside, I am sure they lose some degrees.

AKL heated pool in January felt like 65 degrees so unless the sun is also out at the same time, it is way to cold!

We do want to try HHI during this time frame so we are hoping for better luck

We loved HHI for NYE, booked again! We should all say hello on NYE by the pool!!

Just to add, the one day it was SUPER cold, they did not open the pool. I think she said it has to be above 50 degrees to open it!

LOTS OF FUN! My girls did the NYE parties for their respective age groups, and had a blast!!!!!
