I'm close to pulling the trigger on a trip Dec 26-Jan 1st for 2011. What should I expect to pay in airfare? Has anyone recently been down there from Westchester County area? What did you pay this past Xmas?

We went down for Thanksgiving in 2010 and I paid about $325/ticket which is kinda high for jetblue but it was better than $500. I see that jb has fares posted through Sep. Seems like they publish about 8-9 months in advance. I'd probably try to book as early as possible.

We flew from Rochester NY to MCO on 12/27/10 - 1/2/2011, paid $700.00 roundtrip. I booked the flights in April non-stop, paid a premium to do so only to have them changed in October. We had to fly through JFK both ways. On 12/25 it looked as if all Flights through JFK were going to be cancelled due to inclement weather....we were able to fly out of Buffalo on the 27th. $300.00 for transportation to Buffalo and extra 2 days parking in Rochester. Major, major stress on Christmas night. Never again will I book a flight that far in advance with Jet Blue. I have been a frequent, loyal flyer and am now disheartened. Sorry for the rambling.

Well, I booked the trip for Dec 26th - Jan 1, 2012. I am really worried about the airfare. Is Xmas week typically more or less expensive to fly than Thanksgiving week? When can I expect JetBlue to release Dec fares? May?

My experience is that Christmas is ridiculously expensive to fly. Two years ago we flew Dec 27 - Jan 2 on JetBlue out of Boston. We booked the day fares were released and paid $375/ticket which is much higher than normal. A month later my Mom decided to join us and by then fares had jumped to about $800 pp. We booked it because there really wasn't anything cheaper. The price did drop to about $600 pp bythe time we flew so we ended up with about $200 in credits.

Our experience this past year was that the airfare didn't drop it only went up. We flew out of Rochester NY which doesn't have many options so we are a captive audience.

When looking for airfare, check out Yapta.com. You can select a flight and it will track it for you. You can set it to send you a email alert if the price drops, as if may do for only a day or two. I have gotten airfare from Newark to Anaheim for 239- the price was that low for only a day, but an email alert helped us out
