XM or Sirrus Radio???

When you set it up how long does it take to do? Like if I had a XM system put in(Best buy or Circut city) the car will it be activated then If I want or does it take a few days? I was thinking this would be a cool b-day gift. He gets into the car and it is done and works on his day??? Can you do this? He has asked for one but I have never given in. :confused3

Once you call the # to activate the radio, it's up and running within a 10-15minutes (at least with XM).

You have to have the radio on for the activation to take place, or at least that's what they told me, but I would think if you called when you left Best Buy it would be good to go by the time you go home.

I'd vote XM. I'm no prude but I draw the line way before Howard Stern.

I really like XM, the signal is FAR superior were I live (Southern Ontario) and the technology is FAR better as well. My neighbour has a Stiletto and I have an Inno. He has to put his receiver outside, I just put the XM by the window. But the internal receiver works just fine I don't even need the receiver. To use the Stiletto portably he has to use giant clunky headphones which don't even work that well. His is 3x the size of mine despite the fact that the Stiletto is much newer.

As for content if he prefers some type of sports, you might end up basing your decision on which one has MLB or NHL etc.

Once you call or activate online, there is usually service on the radio within an hour. Usually it is much sooner.

I'm kinda concerned how the merger might affect my husband and I because at the current time we have Sirius radio, but we signed up to the lifetime plan. We paid the $499 for each radio so we wouldn't have to pay monthly bills on the radio. I hope that Sirius honors it commitment to that plan because I really don't wanna being paying a monthly bill on it.

The shareholders' meetings for both companies is today.

Was the merger approved?

If so, how long before they begin offering the merged services?

A couple of years ago, I bought a Sirius reciver that plugs into your cigarette lighter in your car and I signed up for Sirius's service.

Last month, we bought a new Tahoe, which comes with built-in XM. I'm okay with the music choices on XM, but they don't have Court TV, which I listen to alot in the car. So, I've been using my plug-in receiver to listen to Siruis.

BUT, I love, love, LOVE how the XM is built into the existing radio in the car, and has the controlls on the steering wheel. It's so convenient. So, in my perfect world, I would like to get Sirius's programming through the built-in XM receiver and be able to do away with the plug-in one.

So I called Sirius to see if this was possible, but they said I'd have to buy a converter box. Fine, I have no problem with that. The problem is the converter box only works in Tahoes that are older than 2007. Since I have a 2007, this isn't an option.

So a merger would be good news for me - I could use my built-in XM receiver to get the programming I want. Right?

Yes, XM shareholders voted over 99% in favor and it was 96% with Sirius. It is still pending approval from the FCC and U.S. Dept of Justice. Gaining shareholder approval was only the first hurdle. Until it gets govt approval, it is still uncertain, but the companies are saying they feel confident it will happen. They are saying it will most likely be by the end of the year, but since the govt is involved. . . who knows. :confused3
