xd memory card question

I recently bought a larger card (2G) for our Olympus camera (think it's a c5000). We are going on a cruise, and I wanted more storage space than the 128 I originally bought with the camera a few years ago. The problem is everytime I power up the camera, it takes forever to be ready to take pictures. The light blinks rapidly and it seems like it's checking for something. I did format the card when I first put it in the camera. Any advice? Thanks
