xbox 360 help needed for clueless mom!

We have 2 xboxs in our house. 1 for DH and 1 for me and the kids. I was an xbox live ambassador for a few years and would like to help you out. I recommend getting an elite console and an extra controller. don't buy an extra headset until you actually need it. Your son might not be that rough with it. As for the live card, you can hold out for a bit because you get 1 month free when you sign up. Do not sign up on the xbox.com website though, do it on the console or you wont get the free month. As for Call of Duty modern warefare 2 (COD MW2), I do NOT suggest this game for an 11 year old. (Even though I love it) It is so violent that they even have a part in the campaign that gives you the option to skip because of this. (you are a terrorist preforming a civilian massacre in an airport) Do a google search to see for yourself. Even Assassins Creed 2 is tame next to MW2. ( I have completed both games) I think it was in poor judgement for the parents of your sons friends to allow him to play this game without consulting you. As for playing online, your son will play with strangers. There will be cursing and talk of getting "raped" in the game. Unfortunatly it is mostly unsupervised kids doing the trash talk. If you let your children play online, please make sure you are there to supervise it.

thanks for the input....I am going to look into the games tonight. Are there any games that you suggest that are better on the xbox rather than the wii?

The language you can hear when playing online is definitely shocking! I have just recently started letting my son play online, and I made sure to go in and change all his settings. He can only communicate with friends - he can't hear or talk to anyone who isn't on his friends list. He is only allowed to friend people he knows from school, and he knows I check to make sure he hasn't added anyone else. I strongly recommend doing that.

Unless you find a bundle that only has things you planned to buy anyway, you're probably better off buying everything separately. I definitely agree with previous posters that buying new is better than buying preowned. I also agree that the Elite console is probably the best choice to buy, and that you may not need a new headset. We still have the original headsets that we got with our consoles and they still work just fine. There are nicer ones out there, but the originals do the job and ours haven't broken yet, and we've used them for a few years so far.

I have an xbox 460 w/ 30gb harddrive and I use the headset that came with it. I mainly play call of duty/grand theft auto and I've never had to upgrade. Definitely buy the (1) yr membership, it's about $40 and even if you don't always use it.. it will be cheaper in the long run

amazon often has good deals on live cards, also walmart/best buy will have them on sale from time to time... and lets say you get one now and 6 months from now there is a really good sale on them you can buy another one use it and it will just add on to the end of your current subscription

I have found the cheapest price on the membership cards and points is on amazon. The price fluctuates so keep an eye on it. You can also buy points and membership cards with gamestop credit.
