It is very congested on Main St. Once you get past that there really is no impact on the park. There won't be a parade at the usual time that day. You can stand and watch them taping but they redo the same float over several times. They also may do it out of sequence. I did it and enjoyed myself but it is a lot of standing and waiting.

Yeah, what she said!! We found that if we hopped aboard the train first thing we made it to the back of the park in no time and it was empty. So you might want to try that. We'll be there too!

The parade is usually filmed the first weekend in December. This allows plenty of time for filming, then editing before it airs. Been twice. Main Street USA is PACKED!!!! They usually will film that Saturday & Sunday, starting early in the morning and will go until late afternoon. You stand around and watch them film the same act, parade sequence, etc. for quite some time. They will film it, stop, reset and do it again. Also, the parade you see on tv is not filmed that way. It's broken into pieces and filmed separately. It is very time consuming. I did it for the morning on one trip, but by lunch time, I was tired of standing in the same spot (no where to sit) seeing the same thing over and over again. Plus, had some pretty rude off-hour cast members in front of us making comments about how "they should close the park to "other" people and just let CM's view & participate in the filming." Finally one girl got so rude that I had to say "I'm sorry, but is it not I that pays to get in to the parks, stay on property, buy your food & merchandise, which eventually pays your salary to work here at WDW?" They stormed off in a huff, while the really nice family standing next to me said thanks, as they were just about to tell them about the same thing, but not as nice. The rest of the park is not that bad, just Main Street is pretty crowded. For the time spent taping, I'd rather be enjoying the rest of the park.
