X Box Live

If anyone is worried about the language of other players playing online with a gaming console, then they should pull their kids from school as well. I hear more profanity coming from the open door of the bus when my kids are getting off than would take to make a trucker blush. They certainly wouldn't be hearing it for the first time going online with a gaming system....

The swearing I can deal with, if someone dies in a game and goes "oh sh**" that's fine. I can even deal with the f bomb.

I'm not a prude and I have a bad mouth and some of the things said on there made the hair on the back of my neck stand up. :scared1: I'm just going to leave it at that. Absolutely gross stuff said that is adult. Even from little kids (who probably heard it from other people) I think 5 years old is too young to be on live but my kids have come across a few that young on there trash talking. I personally think COD is too real but my kids do play it. They are not that little though.

Well I did not know that as I am a newbie.;)

I did buy the membership through Costco so it was 40 bucks as opposed to 60.

Thanks for that info!

We are all newbies at some point. I was letting you know, I hate to see someone pay more for something. Have fun :)

In my experience with being online, this is completely false. Maybe the bus for high school kids, but not grade school.

IMO a 5 year old is too young to be going live & hearing what is said. The COD game itself I don't have too many issues with.

I am shocked that an 8 yr old is playing call of duty. My grandson is 11 and not allowed. My youngest son is a college student and plays all night long and the language and the graphics are way to much for kids. When the grandkids are here and my sons playing they can not go in his room. He usually gets off and plays something that is ok or at least better for kids. I am over 50 and was proofed when I bought the last game for him. Watch with caution please. Kids already grow up to fast these days.

:scared1: :scared1: Different strokes for different folks I guess. My son can easily differencient from real life to what is video console.

Also, I'm that mom that got her kids cell phones when they were 6 for the DD, 7 for the DS/ :scared1:

As far as the language.....I can tolerate him hearing swear words. I won't have my son hear anything that I won't say myself :rotfl2: :rotfl2: But the slurs, I won't tolerate, so we'll see how that one goes.

He knows that going Live is a priveledge and he respects that. I have NO PROBLEM WHATSOEVER, taking those controls away. I've done it when homework isn't done, I've done it when he acts up and I'll do it if I catch him doing things I don't approved on on Live.

I don't have parental blocks on the computer, never needed them, they know where they can and can't go to. But thanks for your input :rolleyes1

Same here. When he was younger he knew to ask before he went to a new site. My son has heard swearing and I guess slurs if they are on there but he knows he doesn't say those things and they are wrong.

I have found that most of the time my son is playing live with kids from his class or 1 or 2 other kids he has "friended". He rarely goes into a game of unknowns.

It is so cute to watch and listen to him with his headset on playing with other boys in his class when he doesn't know you are watching. They get so animated and into it. I also like that I don't have to drive him places or have other kids over all the time when it is cold and snowy out.

My 13 year old has been playing online for a year, and I've never heard him cuss. I did hear him today say, "God," but I warned him, and he didn't say it again.

Ok, lets say he wants to play Call of Duty(there are lots of them). He signs in and then puts the disc in. Then it will power up the game and say press start. It will then give you campaign, multi player and options. He needs to select 'multi player', then choose 'xbox live'. On multiplayer, go to 'player match' and select the kind of game he wants to play. He might want to go to several of these games and try them before he decides which ones he likes to play. All he has to do is 'click' one to get in there and be able to play.

How old is he? Doesn't he have any friends who can come over and show him? Once he's in there, you will never see him again, lol! I recommend you set some boundaries knowing that he'll need longer times at first while he's trying all the games but once he's settled on a few he'll sit right down and play. Also- he needs to have the same games that his friends have at first so he can go in and play with them. Does he have headphones and a mic? Once in a while, I hear my son laughing and talking with all his friends -who are in their homes- while they play. In general, I prefer he has face to face relationships but this is a good thing on a school night where people drop in AFTER homework is done and we parents have agreed on a 10pm curfew on gaming. No one has to travel, homework gets done, boys have fun with each other and the games are done at a decent time-reward for hardwork.

shortbun I want to thank you once again for your wonderful step by step instructions. As I said, I printed them and took them home last night and we were Live before we knew it.

Thanks for taking the time to post them. :goodvibes :goodvibes
