Wyndham Sugar Bay St. Thomas-child assaults(long)

I am hoping to get the word out regarding a huge incident that spanned quite a period. I have just spoken to the Mom of a nine year old who was raped by a Kid's camp counselor at this resort. The perpetrator, now in prison had a history of molesting children and the Wyndham did not check his references. My daughter was in that kid's club during those years and has had emotional problems ever since. Please if you know of any families that have utilized the kid's club at either Wyndham Sugar Bay or the Wyndham Palma Del Mar between the years of 1996 and 2000, I would urge you to report your concerns(as I did) to:

What makes this crime all the more reprehensible is that Wyndham Corporate will not release the names of any of the children who were in the Kid's Clubs when this convicted pedophile was working there. Wyndham is also requesting that a child previously confirmed to be raped, go through the abuse exam again as THEY ARE VIGOROUSLY DEFENDING THE CHILD MOLESTER! It was only by accident that I logged onto Fodors.com Caribbean message boards and saw the title-"For those who stayed at Wyndham Sugar Bay 1996-2000. There were 3 children in one week who were molested by this man and God knows how many more over the time that he was employed there. Listening to this one little girl's mother's talk last evening made want to vomit. I am planning to take my child for a sexual abuse play therapy session to see if she could possibly be affected. There is some good news for me. I do not believe that this man was on duty when my child was signed up but the staff in that kid's club have apparently admitted in a deposition that they had a strong idea of what was going on. Thanks for reading this thread. We were such huge fans of kid's clubs in the islands before this. We always previewed the clubs, spoke to the counselors etc.. What I'll never forgive myself for is not questioning what could happen if the child was held back from the group, were there active video cameras as there are at WDW, is there ever a time when the counselor will be alone with the children. This perpetrator took the 7-9 yr. old crowd to the hot tub, the hotel kiddie movie night and also loaned himself out as a babysitter(assaults happened in all 3 of these venues). There is much more to this probably widespread case of s. abuse but I am not free to quote from sensitive materials at this time. Most importantly, ask your friends and neighbors if they had a child at the kid's club at either Wyndham Sugar Bay(1999 and 2000) or at the Wyndham Palma del Mar in Puerto Rico(1996-1999)and ask them to call the above number. Kid's clubs are perfect places for people who prey on children - at any time, the other kids are occupied, they can do something, or they can get time alone with the kid (babysitting). I don't mean to scare anyone but there is no way to know if something will happen to your child - convicted child molester or not.
And just as an FYI, if a child is being made to go through a medical exam again, that is horrific. Amazingly enough (even though people/juries don't believe it), more than 80% of the time, there is no mark left on a child who has been molested. So that proves nothing. And unfortunately, people don't believe children.... I could go on and on about this issue - but I won't. Just remember, anyone can be a child molester.

I hope your child is ok - and able to tell you if something happened to her.

I hope your dd is ok. I hate animals like him. Why didn't that place do a better background check on him? I agree with Cuterlt that anyone could be a child molester, but he had a known history, you'd think they would've checked him out before they hired him. I hope he never gets out of prison. I can only imagine how many kids he molested.

Thanks everyone for your kind and informative words. I was talking with the father of one of the victims tonight and even though his case has gone to trial we(along with many others involved in the case) are just so completely distraught that the Wyndham will not inform the many families who had children under the perpetrator's care. Bryan Hornsby is now in jail for up to 5 years but the Wyndham continues to defend him in civil suits brought by the families. So many children could get the help they need if their parents were told of the situation. More than pixie dust going out to all those little ones who can't sleep through the night. Threehearts
