American money is accepted everywhere. We used to go to Cable Beach every summer, and never changed money.
You can also take a jitney (van type taxi) from the shopping area for about $1 each way. That is the transportation the local residents use. It can be a little crowded, you have to wait for it to fill up before they leave, but I love to be able to see some of the local area and talk to people along the way. Once you are at the Wyndham, just walk through the casino entrance and straight back to the pool/beach area. I don't know if they rent umbrellas, we would just set up under a palm tree, but I was always staying at that hotel. They have a really nice lunch buffet just inside the pool area, by the back casino entrance. I don't know how it costs these days. They also have a nice little ice cream shop and a bunch of other restaurants (and bars), including one right out at the pool. The pool has a small slide and a pirates ship that hides the bathrooms.
When you are ready to leave, walk past the cab line at the front door and out to the sidewalk along the street. The jitney comes by every 10-15 minutes and takes you right back to the shopping area on Bay St. near the dock. It is not a long walk at all.
