Ok, so we're planning our first WDW trip for next year. We currently live in Hong Kong, and my older kids and I have been to HKDL many, many times. My younger two kids (twins, currently 4 years old) have only been a couple of times, and have actually been begging to go back. But one of the compromises I had to make for my hubby to agree to a WDW trip is to stop going to HKDL in the meantime, to save money. (We have also been to Disneyland in California a couple of times, the most recent time being 3 years ago.)

So, my question is, for rides that may overlap with HKDL, i.e. Jungle Boat, Tree House, It's a Small World, Tea Cups, etc., would you recommend skipping those rides at WDW because they are "been there, done that", or would you recommend still riding them just to see the similarities and differences? We will probably still do Tea Cups regardless, because all of my kids love that one, but I'm just wondering how to best spend our time. We will most likely only have 5 days in the parks, not doing park hoppers.

All I can say is that the one time I went to Disneyland, I tried to see as many of the different from Florida attractions as possible.

You will love it! Ride your favorites from the other parks, but try to see the stuff unique to WDW. I would plan 2 days at MK, but still spend one full day at each of the other parks, since that is where you will find the most unique offerings!

My answer is based on being a WDW veteran, and having taken one trip to Disneyland. I have no knowledge of the park in Hong Kong, but I'd say that the rides you've been on in Hong Kong might be the ones that will be the MOST fun to ride in WDW because then you can see the differences between them. Yes, WDW and DL both have many of the same rides: Space MOuntain, Small World, Pirates, Haunted Mansion, etc....but the ride at DL in every case is very different in many respects than the ride at WDW. I wouldn't skip them because they are not identical.

I'd focus on the rides that are different. Then if you have time, try out the similar rides. In DLP I did a few new rides, then similar ones after. It was nice to compare them. But if your short on time, i'd definitely try new things.

I was about to post the same thing. I liked comparing the rides in DLP to WDW, but the duplicates aren't so different that it's worth missing unique things you can't experience anywhere else.

Exactly! Would be a shame to miss out on unique rides that you've never been on.
