DH wants to plan another trip . I love that because I would live at WDW if I could. The problem is when to go??? So far we have looked at a long weekend in Dec. or Jan.

We have DVC APs that expire in December. We have been down twice on these passes but, being frugal minded, I always like to squeeze out every last chance to use our days. If we go in Dec we will stay in a studio and do the parks.

We have always talked about going not doing a park, just relaxing by the pool and exploring the resorts. If we go in Jan we will not do the parks. We will most likely get a 1 BR and invite friends to share with us. (they are not park people). The 1BR would be at AKL - a beautiful lodge (and our home) but it is so far from everything else and a long bus ride. If we go in Dec we can stay at a monorail resort but we would be doing the parks and not exploring. Soooo... what would you do?

Keep in mind that I teach and cannot take multiple days off during the school year. If we wait to go it will have to be during school breaks (crowded) or summer (:sunny:) and we usually want (NEED) to get away for a long weekend part way through winter (we live in Maine and I hate the snow and cold)

I would do December. It is so cold in January, so not really a great month to relax, especially if you want to sit at the pool. We are from MA, and won't go in January again....

I'd do December if you can. It tends to be a busy time for DVCers, so options may be slim. You'd still have your passes and be able to enjoy all the beautiful decorations.
However, we love January. Slaclandry is right, it's not the best for lounging by the pool. You may have lows in the upper 30's and highs in the mid-upper 50's, but we always have a few days that are near 80 and are okay for swimming. We are from SE Pennsylvania, and I always think January at WDW is like early May at home. We love to take walks and just enjoy the sunshine and colorful gardens. It's a break from the gray winter at home.
So either time is great.

If the bus rides at AKL are a concern then why limit yourself to there?

As for the choice - you can't really go wrong with either IMO! A trip to FL in January is a great way to break up the winter. And Dec at WDW is always special.

I think we only have enough points for a 1 BR if we stay at AKL. Normally buses aren't an issue but if we go in Jan we will invite our friends to stay with us and I think it would be nice not to be so far away from everything. I do agree that anytime is a great way to break up the winter.

Unless it's a Value 1BR, which really can't be beat, there are other options that use the equivalent of the Standard - OKW, BWV standard view and the new SSR standard. Both OKW and SSR put you close to a golf course if there are any golfers and also a short walk or boat ride to Disney Springs which is great for all the dining options as well as some entertainment.

I would try to slip in another trip on the AP's if there is a studio available. I couldn't go to Disney and NOT go to the parks. If I wanted to "just relax" I would go to the beach (HHI or VB).

ETA: you may have to do January just bcuz of availability. I'm thinking choices for Dec. are already slim?!
