in january I received a pin code for 40% off and booked the poly for 4 nights for myself and my 3 kids. the rest of the week was going to be spent at my friend's house (she lives locally) and we were going to do other things in the area during that time.

my h is now going to join us, but isn't comfortable staying in my friend's house. the pin code rate is long since gone, and I called to see if I could add days at the poly and it shows no openings while we are there.

I know I could book a different area (we love the epcot resorts, for instance) but am wondering if there was a really cool hotel off property that might be a nice choice. my friend lives in winter springs, so we'd like to be not too too far from her.

We really really really enjoyed our stay at the Royal Plaza right by DTD. The room was a King suite which gave us a private bedroom, there was a pullout sofa and they let us bring in an airmattress for the youngest child. We had views of the fireworks, etc. Nice pool, friendly people and it is just recently reopened since the hurricane ripped through it and has been completely renovated. Transportation was a bit of a pain as buses didn't come quick enough to suit us so we walked to DTD and grabbed the much faster buses over there.

We love the Hard Rock Hotel at Universal. Stay there every chance we get! Beautiful 4* hotel w/ excellent service!
