we have these yearly gatherings for updates, industry info, etc ( medical field)......they cancelled the big one this year, usually in the fall, and are having smaller ones in each region of the state.
the company has clincians all over the state.
so the one for my area is coming up, the secretary left me a message wanting to know if I am attending.

I was going to go but I cannot find a sitter for that day, its actually only the morning for 2 1/2 hours.
hubby doesn't have the type of job where he can just go in later. and since we are coming up to year end he has already used up his 5 weeks vacation and his personal days ( we took a lot of vacations this year ).......and I just found out about this meeting last month after said vacations had all occurred :rotfl: so I couldn't have him spare one day.
he does have holidays coming up but they happen after the date of the meeting so no using them. ( he can use the time for a different day because of the nature of his job)

I feel like I should go, but I also don't want to have dh call in sick to work for me to attend a 2 1/2 breakfast seminar.

we have some family close by, but they work during the day and my usual people I would ask to watch the kids are out of town.

I don't have a regular sitter to use on a regular basis. I usually will have friends watch them if needed and I do the same for them.

and all the moms on my street work during the day , so there is no other sahm to ask in the neighborhood.

so would you just tell them you can't attend, no sitter available or would you have hubby waste a sick day for this?

( for backstory info if you want it, I only work part time, about 8-10 hours a week, usually in the evening or dh's days off)

I'm not sure. If I really wanted to attend and it was useful I would tryto find something to do with the kids for the day or have DH call in sick. Otherwise it just doesnt seem like you are going to be able to go unless he does call in sick.

Is there a daycare that you can "drop in" for the day?

hmmm I never thought of that.
they are beyond daycare age, we homeschool, so don't know if that makes a difference.

If they are beyond daycare age, which is 12 here, they should be able to stay home alone for a couple hours on their own. If they are under 12, check into drop in day cares or see if there is a program at your local YMCA or similar that they could attend.

I just googled for child care and found a place with a location in the next town over that does school age childcare, I think it means before and after school, and vacations, but I wonder if they would do a drop in for 2 hours. I am going to call them to see.
thanks for the idea

another good idea, I will check the YMCA.

We homeschool and have had the same type of issue come up. I work a very part time job (16 hours every other week). If my Mom can't watch the kids, then DH takes the time from work. BUT he usually works at home, so it's not that much of a big deal (though he will try to block the time out on his calendar so he doesn't have client calls scheduled then).

Not knowing what kind of job your husband has makes it hard to know, but ...Can he just go in a little late that day and stay later in the evening to make up for it? Can he work at home that day instead? Could you somehow take the children with you? (again, totally depends on the where/what of your job, but some of my coworkers have done this in an emergency when we have a training).

I might be able to bring the kids along, but they will be bored silly I am sure!
Its going to be a breakfast seminar on psychiatric medications
I think there may be other dates in other areas coming up, I am going to call my program director tomorrow to see if and when those dates will be.

my dh has said he will call out if I really want to go and can't find other child care. so he isn't opposed to it, I just really hate having him use the time for this.

Do you know anyone in your homeschool community who might be able to help out for a couple of hours? Surely there are other moms who homeschool who would be glad to help you out - epsecially if you offered to pay them. Sounds like a win-win to me.
