I have taken a job although I'm still receiving cancer treatment. Not chemo anymore, something different they are testing. It makes me quite tired and my stomach is somewhat upset. The fatigue definitely has an effect on what I do daily and how much I can accomplish. The job requires that I be on my feet for 3 to 4 hours 2 days a week plus every 3rd weekend. I can take a break often and whenever I need to though it doesn't help a lot. I told the boss all about things before I was hired and she was willing to give it a try. After the day is over I'm exhausted. I need a good long nap and to rest. Dh usually winds up cooking and doing enough cleaning to keep us in clean dishes and laundry. I don't have the energy to do both and we really could use the money at least through the holidays. Dh isn't working any o/t right now and isn't expecting any until about Feb. This paycheck, even as small as it is makes a big difference for us. It can mean groceries on the week the rent is due. Without it, there will be no christmas for us.

OTOH, it's on the verge of being too much for me. Everyone including Dh says if it's too much to quit. The problem with quitting is how much we need the money. Like I said, without it, there's no christmas for us. No groceries two weeks a month when we are saving up for rent. I'd feel horribly guilty quitting. I know my health should come first but we all know the practicalities of life often come first. WWYD?? Oh, once Dh gets his o/t early next year I do plan to quit. There will be plenty of money then. It's just getting through the next few months. Again, WWYD?

you got to quit for the time being, get your strenth back. Having his wife feeelinjg good is enough of a Christams present for dh. Just look for ways to mmake little money lkast longer, you coud do it :)

I am sexy

Is there any way they could let you sit down more? On my job I stand all day, but if need be for Health reasons,I'm sure I could sit.

The nature of the job means I can take breaks when ever I want but the job can't be done sitting down no.

Yeah - what Pop Daddy said.

Your health is far more important than anything. Have you asked your doctors what they would recommend - they may have some specific advise for you based on the meds you are taking.

He says to do as much as I can without exhausting myself. Dh is a big help at home. He does it all pretty much. I'm just on the line right now. I just can't decide :confused3

:grouphug: Shugardrawers - if your doc says to do as much as you can without exhausting yourselp - then quit. You've clearly said your exhausted.

I know its hard decision. You've had a rough couple of months. I know money is tight - I've been following some of your posts over the last couple of months.

I'll send some hugs your way - good luck with your decision!

Do a search for Angel Food Ministries. See if they have this available in your area. It's a really good program and that'll alleviate some of your worries as far as groceries go for a couple of weeks. Pm me if you can't find a link to it or if you have any questions. A lady that works with me did some research on this and I've talked to some people at a local church that has this program.

What's the possibility of finding a job that will let you sit all the time?

I've thought about a lite receptionist job and am looking for something like that. Nothing available just yet. Sent you a PM about Angel Food Ministries. Thanks for that info.

That's what I was thinking.. Maybe you could go to a temp agency and get some receptionist work?

Hope you feel better soon! :flower:

I hope you find something like that. How about a car dealership or something? They are always needing receptionist jobs.:)

Sent you a pm back. If that's not an option, there might be other places like Angel Foods in your direct area.:)

I have some meal suggestions. I recommend pre-cooking some meals--slow cooker is very handy and maybe using paper plates on the work days. Our favorite cook ahead meals (that can be easy on the budget) include putting chicken in a slow cooker and then put in our favorites spices and a can of cream of mushroom soup---we usually have some mixed veggies and salad on the side. Last month, ground turkey was on sale so I bought a lot (2 trips--had to make sure I had room in the freezer) and cooked 3 lbs at a time---without seasoning and divided it up into ziplocs. Then I cooked 2 lbs for turkey tacos and divided it up into several meals for two.

Breakfast for dinner is fun too---eggs are cheap and a great source for protein. I like to throw in some veggies and cheese to fancy it up a bit. If we have ham slices---we chopped it and add it too the mix.

I found a couple of things that *may* be possible looking in the paper late last night. Then of course I go back to the problem of people seeing that I wear caps and knowing I've been sick. They tell me to come back when I feel better...This boss was willing to give me a shot. I don't know if anyone else would.

Christmas is overrated...don't need that. Food, well that is something you need.

Is there a way for you to receive food stamps or a go to a food pantry temporarily while you get back on your feet?

I know that it is humbling to get "free" stuff, but honestly that is what it is there for. To help you thru rough times.

Exhaustion is nothing to fool with, esp now that cold and flu season is upon us. I cannot handle exhaustion it makes me get sick.

I agree...if you're exhausted, it puts you at risk for getting a secondary infection such as cold or flu, which cannot be good for a cancer patient.

I would quit and try to find something less tiring or quit and see if you can find a church or charity that gives food away to get you through the tight weeks. I know our church gives food out on Thursdays to whoever needs it at the moment.

Hope you feel lots better soon.

I agree that your health is most important. Quit your job, and then maybe it will be easier to find something that's easier on you when you're more rested and have more time to look.

Christmas isn't presents. You will still have Christmas, even if you have to eat oatmeal because that's all you can afford.

Have you looked into getting social security disability benefits? Depending on your situation you may qualify. It isn't something you need to stay on forever either. When you get better and can return to work and stop the benefits. Its worth looking into. It will help alot with the stress factor if you do qualify. Stress does not help things! LOL

PM me if you have any questions. Good Luck!

I looked in yesterday's paper and lo and behold, 2 car dealerships are looking for operators. I faxed them my resume along with a cover letter that briefly explains the situation and that I want to work but need something a bit less physically taxing. I've also got years of answering service experience so I expect I'll get at least an interview from one of them. Thanks for that suggestion.

Anyone having a tough time that doesn't qualify for food stamps (we don't even come close) should check in to this Angel Foods. It looks like a great program and gives you some dignity and choices. Hopefully we'll find something in our area. Thanks again Browneyes, that was a GREAT suggestion.

I'm going to talk with my Dr about backing me up for SSD though that could take months and we are only talking a matter of a few months so although we need it, it probably wouldn't show up until the worst is over  still, worth a try.

what about disability. Tell your dr how you are feeling and see if he will list you as eligible. Disability based on your previous full time job might be better pay then whatever part time job you take now.

:bounce: My fingers are crossed and my feet are ready to cut a jig for you when you get one of these jobs.:dancer:

Good luck, T. :cheer2:
