WWYD - Waitlist - It came through!

This is the first time I've been frustrated with DVC. I messed up and didn't call for reservations for Thanksgiving until 12/29. This is just one week after reservations opened. I couldn't get a BWV standard view 2bdrm for the entire week so I'm waitlisted on part of the week. I should have gone ahead and made preferred view reservations, I didn't think to check if it was available and called about a 1mth later and it wasn't.

I called today, waitlist hasn't come through and the only availability for a 2bdrm during that time is Saratoga so probably won't have much luck with the 7mth window.

Not sure what I'm going to do. If the waitlist doesn't come through soon I may just cancel and do something different. MIL might go with us but that is still up in the air.

Could work out for the better if we wait until next year to do Thanksgiving and make our summer trip longer.

I hate not knowing at this point, I need to buy air tickets soon....

How often does waitlist not come through?? Should I just not count on it and make other plans??

our waitlist has come through every single time - I would waitlist it day by day as you will have a much better chance of getting them all that way.

one other thing - on this last trip we went a week ago over spring break and we had a studio reserved for four nights - I did a waitlist on a 1BR for all four nights because we did not have extra points to hold those nights if they came through one by one and we did not want to move. We got the entire four nights from the waitlist together - and that was prime season like Thanksgiving so don't give up.

I'm afraid to change the waitlist; won't that get me at the bottom and now hopefully I'm near the top. I wish they would give some idea of the status so we'd know if it was hopeless or not.

I'm thinking of making a reservation at SSR for the remaining days. Anyone know if I can make that reservation automatically cancel if the waitlist comes through or do I need points to cover both?

FWIW (as one who often books SV for that time), I don't think you have a very good chance of getting a SV via the waitlist. Not a lot of members seem to move around/give those SV up for that week. However, I wouldn't suggest giving up until sometime after the 7 month window opens. You never know and you did get on the waitlist quite early in the window.

If it were me, I'd call and ask to be on the waitlist for a PV 2 bedroom (in additon to the SV waitlist you are already on). I think chances are pretty good that a PV waitlist will come through - many will try to move around at the 7 month window. For the PV waitlist, I'd suggest you waitlist for each day individually.

Also, if you really want to go during that time, go ahead a make a back up at SSR. Yes, you can instruct MS to cancel the SSR reservation to get points for the BWV rreservation if / when the waitlist days come through.

Thanks Carol, that gives me some good ideas. We'd rather not move but I hate to give up my SV & BWV for the nights I have it. Maybe if I get PV they wouldn't make me give up the room. Hopefully I can get SSR for the remaining days and the rest will fall into place.

I called today to try to get a reservation and they said I didn't have enough points! After a moments panic I realized that must mean my waitlist came through! Sure enough everything is finalized! We have BWV for the entire week standard view - that also means I need the least points so I'll have more for our summer trip. A very good day for me
