WWYD-Pumpkins.. UPDATE #2 - Pumpkins not so important when a house goes up in flames.

I would knock on the door of the people who you think have your pumpkins. I do a fall themed decor for our house this way I don't have to change it from Halloween to Thanksgiving. So you can bet you bottom dollar (all $70 of them) that I'd want to know who took MY pumpkins.

It was probably about time to throw them out anyway. Maybe they did you a favor by getting rid of them.;)

What do you normally do with old pumpkins?

The poster who said the police would laugh as soon as they got off the phone is right. The police have way more important things to do than spend their time dealing with such trivial things.
I could see being upset if this was before halloween. I had to look at the date of this post to make sure.

let it go.

Next year if you want to keep old pumpkins then move them into the yard.

We have pumpkins out from around 10/10 to 11/28. We have on average 10 uncarved pumpkins of various shape and sizes as well as several gourds out this entire timeframe. Once we pull the halloween stuff - skulls, bats, ghosts, and the carved and light up pumpkins out, we have to go get more pumpkins, gourds, and indian corn to fill in the spots for all the fall decor.

If someone just came onto our property and cleaned out our pumpkins, I would not be pleased.

Thats such a great idea, but just one question. You said you put them in your garden, so does that mean that if I just set it in the grass, it wouldn't work? I would LOVE to grow my own pumpkins!!!! It would save me $70 at least!! LOL

Also, the funny thing is, we had 3 small white pumpkins on the table that they left! We had used them for a pumpkin race durring the party. At least I still have them, but they are very small :sad2:

Yes! I just set them in the garden. Now there were some tilled areas where I had tried to grow something before, but patchy grassy areas too. Anyway, I did nothing else. Just set them there behind a small little wall. :upsidedow :rolleyes1 They were just reclaimed and started growing on their own. I was really surprised because I don't have a lot of luck with growing things. But, maybe that will change. I don't know. I didn't weed or anything. It was really funny to look back there one day and see all of these pumpkins! The kids loved it!

We did start weeding and tending to them once we found them. I even threw some watermelon seeds back there in a different area and they grew too. So I guess those are two things that are easy to grow.

Awesome!! One more question.... you did it on Oct/Nov of one year, and they stayed there OK and were good for Oct of the next year? I don't want pumpkins in July!!! LOL

Well, they were in different stages throughout the summer. We watched some of them flower, other vines had smallish and green pumpkins that grew through the summer. They did start turning color in August and matured around the end of August. I think it had to do with our weather though. We had a dry summer and once I found them I watered them every morning. Also we have some areas that hindered full development because we're renovating our patio and some of the debris (pathway removal) is in the way.

So the short answer is: I should look into the best time to plant pumpkins before I set them out again. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: We didn't use the pumpkins from the garden for Halloween this year. But we enjoyed growing them just the same. :upsidedow

Around here, pumpkins that are not carved for Halloween are usually used as Thanksgiving decorations.

And as I said on the last post of page 1, what makes them "old"? If they are not rotted, just because its technically after Halloween, I don't see why they are classified as "old." And besides the point, even if theres some law that states that after halloween pumpkins are "old" doesn't mean that anyone has the right to come onto my property and just take them because they feel like it. LOL

you know what...

I don't care if they are pumpkins and it is Valentine's Day...

You don't go taking people's stuff out of their yard without permission.

While I won't necessarily call the cops--if I knew where my pumpkins were, I would not hesitate to go and look into it.

It was probably just an innocent mistake on the kids part (as in they meant no ill will).

Todays date does not matter. The condition of the pumpkins really is moot.

The fact that they were stolen is a problem and warrants speaking to the parents.

I mean seriously???? Just b/c we're 9 days past Halloween, it is okay to brush it off and allow them to be stolen?

Good to know--b/c on January 2---if your christmas decor is up, I may just help myself to it since there is a statute of limitations of when it is fair game to take things from other people's houses if they haven't put it away or disposed of it already. (okay--that's a joke, lighten up!)

I live in a different climate. Our carved pumpkins freeze as normally the snow is on the ground for Halloween or soon after. Ours go in the garbage halloween night. Otherwise they get gross.
There are some people around here that still have them on their steps but trust me, they wouldn't be worth stealing. ugh.

I completely agree

I think the person you're responding to there is on your side.

And I think the "old" comments are from people who have experiences like us...we bought pumpkins the night before H'ween, carved them that night and the next day, and they were COVERED in mold by yesterday. Most definitely old!

IMO nothing makes it OK for people to take what's yours, even if it was free to you. It makes me sad to think that police officers would laugh at this, since it is theft, which is a crime, and it seems, a crime that they would ignore. :( No matter how unimportant something might be to everyone else in the world, if it's important to you, and it was yours, it's a crime for another person to take it.

But because I personally wouldn't want someone to go to jail for this, but I would want their parents to know (or at least the kids themselves), I would take hubby to the house where they were, and ask some questions...

In all fairness getting pumpkins back is nothing in my book. And we would be pretty slick about it.;)

I had to send my dh to one of my dd's friends house to get her cell phone 3 weeks ago. The sister lifted it from her as she was leaving. She gave her a hug.

Blah. I guess growing up a bit rough pays off. The girl "played it off" like my dd dropped it in our truck. Yea...right, we checked it.

Anyway friend's sister saves face along with my dd. DD learns a valuable lesson.

Just like pumpkin kid would as I talked to the parents about the mistake he made.

I can appreciate you're upset, OP..but what would really chap my behind would be paying $70 for pumpkins.

Well I've never had my behinD chapped, but OK..... :scared1::lmao::lmao:

Personally, we really like to decorate for Halloween. We have tons of stuff out, and the have a blast doing it. Yes, we spend money of pumpkins. They are not free, and I can't help the pricing of them. Truthfully, its no ones business how much we pay for them. And lastly, there are plenty of homes in my neighborhood that have as many if not more pumpkins as us (or what we HAD I should say...).
