I'm taking my girls back to the world in October. We're planning only one day at MGM. It's also the only day I can squeeze in the Poly Luau if I want. What would you do? We can easily see all of MGM before leaving for the Luau. ALl except fantasmic. I don't really have time to hop over to MGM any other night, as we love Spectro & Wishes & try to see it several times. We have seen Fantasmic before, but it was about 4 years ago. I'd love to hear what you think

We're also curious to see what other DISers have to say about them. We haven't seen either ... yet. Hoping to this coming trip.

The Luau show at Disney's Polynesian resort is absolutely amazing. The food is great, and the show is even better. Although it is a little costly, the Poly Luau is the way to go vs. Fantasmic!

hhmmm. I usually advise folks to do the things they haven't done before. But, to think this through, well.....if it's been so long since you've seen Fantasmic....why has it been that long?

Did you like it/love it when you did see it? Do your kids remember it well since the last time (maybe they were very young last time)? If this is the case, maybe you should try it again.

OTOH, If you haven't been back to see it in so long, maybe it would be better to try the Luau anyway, you know? ;)

I haven't seen the Luau yet myself, and have seen Fantasmic many times. If it were me, I would probably go with the thing I haven't done before, especially if the other choice didn't "wow" me the first time. (though we do love Fantasmic! It's even better at DL!)

My girls were 3 & 7 the last time we saw Fantasmic. The whole "villian" theme freaked my 7 yr old out. Even when we went back last year at 10 yrs old, meeting "Sorcerer" Mickey was not on her top "to do" list. I enjoy it a lot, but my trips are 110% based on my kids. When we were there in Oct '05 my girls thought it was our "once every 2 years trip" they have no clue we're going just 11 months later! I know for some Dis'ers it's not a big deal, but for us it is huge! We've never done the luau at all. I thought it might be fun.

We enjoy the Fantasmic show At MGM, but the last 3-5 trips have avoided it. We're not willing to wait in line or enter early to get a seat and standing for the whole show in not an option anymore. Plus we do not care for the mad exodus of leaving with a ton of people. I think the theatre should be alot bigger or open like EPCOTs Illuminations. Also more exits to leave by.

As for the Luau, we don't care for the food or show, for our money, we're Hoop Dee Do people, old west, family style cookin' and an ole west corny show, been to a bunch over the years and it never gets old. Great boat ride from the deluxe resorts and Fort Wilderness is as peaceful as it gets in WDW.

Make your own choice, these are just our observations and personal choices on how we do Disney.

Why couldn't you do the early Luah and then take the monorail or boat over to MK to see Spectro and Wishes. We have done this in the past an are planning on doing it again on our November trip. We love Fantasmic and the Luah. You can also see Wishes really well from the Poly beach and I think they have the music piped in as well. As far as waiting in line for Fantasmic, we do the dinner pkg. We have to eat dinner somewhere, right! We might as well take advatage of the reserved seating.

I love Fantasmic, so I would not miss it. I haven't seen the Luau, but I perform in many here in TX, so that wouldn't be important to me (probably not as "authentic" as I am used to.) You might want to do a quick search on the Dining board to see some recent reviews of the Luau. Many of the reviews I have read seemed to grade it as more so-so than great. Many say that Hoopdeedo is a much better show, at the same price.

I haven't done the Luau, but my best friend just did it with her dh and dd. They LOVED it.

I ADORE Fantasmic. I am going to do it with the dinner package for the next extended vacation!

Oh, Fantasmic without a doubt. We thought the Luau stunk - the show was boring except for the firedancer and the food was not even mediocre. Even the "free" wine was awful. I took one sip and the waiter came over to say "That is the usual reaction. Wanna Coke?"

Now HDDR, well, that would be a tougher decision!
