Party, hands down. It is so much fun, well done. You will love it. You can visit the lodge and kidani and see all the lodge, the animals, restaurants...do it all but the pool and sleep there.
On my only previous trip we stayed standard view AKL for 2 nights and did F&W and MVMCP. We were upgraded to Savanna View. We finally saw a couple giraffes on our last morning and a few other animals through the 2 days (when we were in the room that is). Our view was not of the premium savanna but one of the little side savannas. We had considered upgrading to savanna view but chose to save the money- so glad we did. Had we paid the money and received that view I would have been quite upset but as we paid for parking lot view just the couple animals we saw were treats!
We did MVMCP on our 2nd night and it was the highlight of our mini-trip. Short ride lines (we were all about the lines), beautiful Christmas decor, I feel there was a lot more bang for my buck there vs an AKL savanna view room.

Are you only coming for one night? If yes I'd go with AKL but I'm not really into the extra parties they have at WDW.
If you are looking for excitement then you'd probably prefer the party.
I'd do the party in a heartbeat instead of a night in a Savannah view at the lodge. Reason is there is no guarantee you will receive a premium view even when paying for one. There are smaller savannahs with fewer animals that are considered Savannah view rooms. I'd go to the lodge and view for a bit, then enjoy the party.
Thank you everyone for your replies. We have decided to do a dinner at Sanaa and explore the common areas of the resort on our arrival day. We are going to a Christmas party just not sure which night. Thinking either Sunday the 10th or Thursday the 14th....
