Moved into new place last month. Very nice and normally very quiet. Unfortunatly next door neighbor has a chihauhau (sp?) that barks non-stop. Last night dog barked non-stop from 9 p.m. to at least 3:30 a.m. keeping me awake. Normally I travel so I'm only home on weekends, but this week I worked from home and dog barked non-stop. Never see neighbor so have not had a chance to say anything. Anyone have a suggestion on best way to handle this? :goodvibes

I would send a letter, keep a copy for your records and see what happens. If the dog continues to bark, I would contact animal control. Dogs barking is also part of the noise ordinance here.

Shes keeping a chihuhua outside all night?

Until 3:30 am??? I would have been knocking on a door.

I am wondering what others will suggest as I sit here listening to my neighbors dog bark ( since 8am).

Because the first thing I thought of was "paint ball gun". I'm not a morning person. **I wouldn't really do that, but I am still thinking it.)

I think I'd start by introducing myself to the new neighbor, try to make nice, and ask if they are aware the dog is barking all night(maybe they aren't home much?). It's good to know your neighbors, and if you explain calmly what's going on, maybe they can put a stop to it. If the neighbor doesn't cooperate, then you take whatever steps necessary to solve the problem.

We usually just call the police on the house behind my neighbors house when their dog barks for hours-it varies though because there are at least 4 of us that call so it rotates as to who calls the cops each time LOL. They are just renters so I can't wait for them to leave! I HAVE a barker for a dog and I make darn sure that as soon as he lets out one bark I get him right back into the house. I would never leave him outside barking his head off- its annoying!

In my childhood home we had the same issue, only the barking dog was ours! :cool1:

We had neighbor ask us to keep Duffy inside in the evening because he bothered her. We had gotten used to him barking and were just unaware, even though it was right outside the master bedroom. So during the day Duffy could happily bark at passing cars (or empty air.. lord knows what went through the dogs head). At 10 pm we would shut his doggy door and he was trapped inside for the night. He wouldn't bark inside the house, only in the yard.

The two or three times we forgot through the years the neighbor called us on our home phone and we would run get him. For the most part it worked out well. My parents actually became very close friends with those neighbors. They had met because of our noisy dog and their cat wandering over to our house for 2nd and 3rd meals. :lmao: I named their cat Shake n Bake (apparently we was truly named Frosty but maintained a double identity for extra food :lmao:). We still keep in touch with that family, and the pets have long passed.

Be friendly. Either go knock on the door and ask or write a letter and ask that the barker be kept inside after a certain time at night. If they are nice people that may be all ya need. They are probably so accustomed to the barking it doesnt bother them.

I left letter hours ago and it's still on their door and dog continues to bark. I kept letter very civil. I may just hop in car and drive to Orlando for a few days (have 6 free weekend nights to use at Sheraton and relaxing weekend at the Swan/Dolphin and cocktails at Epcot may be inorder!).:goodvibes

and the thing is the dog is not outside. stays inside barking for hours and hours. I actually feel sorry for it but my patience is thin today due to lack of sleep!

this reminds me of rent.

that dog fell out the 23rd story window :scared1:

dont kill the dog! tell the neighbors. besides they shouldnt leave it outside all night anyway. the poor little thing was probably scared to death being out there all alone!

She says the dog is barking INSIDE.

If no one is answering the door or not bothered to open their door, I would contact the police. No one, no one sane, can listen to a dog bark that long without stopping it. Something must be wrong in that home.

Ask for a well visit, and explain to the police what you wrote here.

I'm in a condo. Two stories. dog is next door. I've seen dog through my bedroom window (each unit has small plot of land) which is how I know it's a chichacha.
