My son will be playing in a tournament at ESPN. I keep going back and forth on what to do. Here are our options...

1. Husband and son fly to FL, play in the tournament, fly home.

2. Drive... Husband and I plus 2 of our other kids will get to go. It is about a 17/18 hour drive. Due to time spent at the tournament, and the fact that we just spent 2 weeks at WDW this past June, we aren't planning on going to the parks... However, we would definitely go to one MVMCP, which we've never attended before.

Cost is the same for both options. Kids are 13, 10, 7. We would also stay at POP the night of the party.

WWYD??

Ive never done MVMCP so if the cost is the same and you don't mind doing the long drive I say go for it.

I was able to attend a MNNSHP and I loved it so I can only imagine how much fun the Christmas party must be. I think those kind of things are worth the extra expense but its not really extra if both options cost the same :-)

Take the whole family and go to MVMCP! Great way to build some special family moments and memories! I'm assuming you've made the trek to WDW before and know what to expect from a long road trip. Have fun!

As long as everyone else really wants to go and is up for the road trip, then why not? How long will you be staying there versus the driving time?

I drive fairly often and am just over 1,000 miles away. I leave early morning (2:30 AM) and am in that Orlando area around 6:30 pm, to cut down on the road days versus WDW days ratio.

How rough is the drive going to be on the kid competing? As much as I would be tempted to add on a family vacation, I think it's important to make sure it isn't at the expense of the person who the trip is really about. Will a 17 hour drive make him too tired/stressed/distracted to play at his best? That's not fair to him or his team who have presumably worked hard to get to this level.

If it won't faze him, go for it. Just make sure he doesn't get overshadowed on a trip that kind of ought to be focused on him.

Do the party! That is, if you don't mind the drive and if you can stand being there and not going to the parks during the day.

I agree, go to the party! We went in 2013 and LOVED it! We did every single ride we wanted to in such a short amount of time. We had zero waits and loved all the 'extras' like dance parties and free cookies and hot chocolate. Plus, there's snow on main street!

There is no way I would ever drive 17/18 hours to be at DW for one night. I love the MVMCP but I wouldn't drive all that way just for that. However, if you take a family vote and everyone else is "in" then why not!
