So today I was driving on the AC Expressway and the car in front of me (Driver) dumped out an entire Fast Food supersize soda along with tons of ice cubes out their window. I was about 4 car lengths behind, I wasn't driving unsafely - it was a young male driver furious . Of course I sped up and gave the driver a gesture but besides the fact that my entire car was covered in soda and ice I wonder if there was anything else I could have done. Thank goodness I didn't drive off the road. I assume the police wouldn't do anything but this cannot be legal?

I would have been mad too, but I wouldn't have sped up and thrown him a gesture. In this day and time, that's just asking for a road rage incident. Life is too short to engage with idiots.

If you were really worked up about it, I suppose you could call the Highway Patrol and told them about the Littering Offender. Whether or not they do anything about it is a different story.

Agree 100% and then more!!! I would never have chased an idiot, what if he swerved into you or had a gun? or just took it upon himself to make the rest of your drive a living heck?

I would have been yelling some choice words inside my car but I would never have sped up to catch him and egg him on, seriously what were you thinking? (I had to say that I have a teenager!)

You could call the police, he would get pulled over & a ticket. The hassle to him would be worth it. Just gotta get the plate # color & make of the car. What he did was dangerous. I went to HS with a girl who had her car egged on halloween and she crashed into a telephone pole. Anything hitting the windshield could be dangerous.

Yes, probably just the heat of the moment it set me off, I had ice cubes bouncing off of my hood and windshield. I eventually just cooled down but it's hard when someone does something to you so unsafe.

That's just it - it wasn't like a cigarette, it was a full soda with ice hitting my car. I didn't get the license plate, but wish I had. Oh well. It's never happened to me before, lets hope it never does again.

Unfortunately unless an officer saw the offense nothing would happen. It is a case of he said she said and they aren't going to just take your word for it and write a ticket.

I'm also not sure if dumping a soda is technically littering if you don't also drop the cup. I've dumped out coffee cups and water bottles but never while driving.

You might think about working on your anger issues.

Asking for it? It seems that she WAS the road rage incident.

I would have to agree. Temper got the best of your or not....engaging in "sign language" is road rage...especially when preceded by a hasty acceleration to pass several vehicles to give that message.

All the other person did was litter. They committed an inconsiderate act with uninentional consequences. They weren't trying to hit your vehicile with debris. You made a conscious decision to express your anger. That is road rage.

I'm sorry they did that to you. In the future, take the high road...or I'd you feel compelled to report them....get their tag number and/or call 911 if you feel they did something dangerous and are posing a risk to other drivers.

No I think she was just the innocent bystander to an inconsiderate, ignorant jerk. All he thought about was he wanted to get rid of that drink NOW so he dumped it never thinking of those behind him or how fast and hard liquid and ice will fly thru the air at 70 miles an hour.

All that is true but there was no rage or anger on his part. He was just being inconsiderate and I still don't consider the dumping of an edible liquid littering.

It is in the reaction that there was rage.

If someone cuts you off and you react with rage it is you that is guilty of road rage. All the other guy is guilty of is bad driving.

I totally agree with this! I am constantly telling my kids (young adults) to never engage in this kind of behavior because you never know how the other person will react. I am especially conscious of this in Arizona where it is legal to carry a concealed weapon without a permit, and without any kind of training or education about guns. Kind of like living in the Old Wild West.:sad2:

The AC Expressway is in NJ. She would have to surrender her license if she did not speed up and flip him off. Sorry, but I believe its a question on the driver's test now.

1) What is the appropriate response when someone doesn't something stupid on the road?
a) Calm down and proceed with safe driving.
b) Pull over and cry
c) Call the police
d) Speed up, recklessly passing other vehicles and give that driver the "Jersey salute."

Anything other than "d" is wrong. Sorry, but its Jersey. :goodvibes :lmao: Might not agree with it but we definitely have our own way of driving. Maybe that explains the sky high insurance rates. ;)

Wow! How I miss NJ!

Is it true that vehicles cut off in NJ if the horn isn't blown at least one every 3 minutes?;)

I had the same thing happen to me, but replace soda with lit cigarette. I swear the thing bounced around on the hood of my car for a while before hitting the ground. I guess I have anger issues too because my horn was blowing all the way down 295.

OP- I don't think there's anything that could be done to this guy unless he actually threw the cup out the window.

At least you were safe!!
