sounds like she could be anemic. Go get a dr's appt.
ITP--idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura. The name sounds horrible, but it means the body for whatever reason starts chewing up platelets (the blood cells that help blood clot). That's why the bruises appear so easily. Some kids also get nosebleeds or bleeding gums. The white cell and red cell counts are normal in this condition. It is very treatable.
I agree your doctor will probably do a CBC. Let us know what you find out and try not to panic in the meantime.![]()
YES!!! You must be in the medical field! (Boy-was I off!!!) I just contacted her & asked her the name...I guess she does get the nosebleeds on occasion no issues at this point with gums though...
Okay--how is that diagnosed?
My dd that I mentioned on the first page--gets nosebleeds. I'm not sure what is considered often, but often enough to be noticable and for it to not phase me when it occurs. I would guess once every 2 months or so.
Someone had asked if she is ?"Bendy"?--I'm not sure. When I call my dd a klutz--she bumps into things, drops things. However she does Dance and gymnastics and there have been no noticable "klutz" maneuvers that wouldn't occur in any other kid of her skill level. So I'm not sure.
I had a friend whose son experienced this at a similar age and she had him checked. In his case, it was leukemia.
However .)
Thats how we found out my godson had leukemia- bruised easily and was very tired all the time- also he had nosebleeds on and off for a month prior to being diagnosed. Every time he went to the Dr the Dr would say "oh its just a virus" finally they did blood work and it came back as Leukemia. Every kid that bruises doesn't have it but in our case that was what it was.
