I am planning a once again in a lifetime trip to celebrate my 40th. My family of 5 will spend three nights at DL on our way to Aulani. At Aulani, my sister's family will be joining us in a two bedroom. I know getting Aulani at 7 months can be tough. I plan to be in Aulani on June 5th, in DL June 2. Would you stay at a good partner hotel at DL and be flexible on the Aulani view? Would you walk the Aulani reservation for an island view 2 bedroom and try for a VGC reservation as well? I would be worried if I rented points for VGC, that I would get shut out of Aulani for my dates and I would not be able to use my VGC reservation. Thanks for your input.

If you're flexible on your Aulani view- pool or ocean you'll probably be ok.

I'd go with a good partner hotel at DL and book either pool or ocean view at Aulani. (That is, if you are a bit point-challenged, shift the point usage to make more points available for Aulani. Have plenty available for Aulani, any view ... but pay cash for DL.)
