WWWD comments inspired me to read

All the talk about Walt and how he would have felt about closing VMK made me realize, I knew very little about him. Would he or wouldn't he close VMK? Seems likely he'd close it if it wasn't accomplishing its task, but likely he'd throw the dog a bone while he was at it.

In the last week or so I've read (or am part way through) some books about the construction of WDW and Walt.

I also read Realityland and am about 75 pages away from finishing the mammoth Neal Gabler bio on Walt. Fascinating reading. The latter book appears to shed a well rounded light on Disney, both the stuff we all seem to know, and the more tortured side we may not want to know too. It is NOT a slow read, but worth it if you stick with it.

I was thinking the same thing when I woke up this morning....would Walt close vmk? While of course we have NO CLUE, it is fun to imagine. As a man who loved his park, and a person who "plussed" things to the very end, I would say maybe not. And if it did close, there may have been something even WAY more amazing just around the bend. But if that means toon town or penguins, to me it does not fit the bill.

When people aren't in the room with the Partners Statue on VMK, sometime I go stand by Walt and tell him thanks. Regardless of some of the things I have read in Gabler's book, I still have a profound respect for him and his legacy.

Walt loved his parks, I don't think that he would close down something that lets people experience them from home. Especially something like VMK, which is enjoyed so much. But again, we can never really know (at least, we won't know until they unfreeze his head).
