Maybe I am the only one but I think I need to stop reading the Atkins thread because they make me feel a little jealous with what they can eat.

All the mayo you can eat
"Real" salad dressings
Eggs
Cheese
Nuts
Ham and Cheese with mayo
Jalapenos and cheese on pork rinds
Bacon and sausage

I know that WW is the best plan for me because I could never live with a plan as restrictive as Atkins long term. I don't necessarily feel deprived with WW but it does sometimes makes me feel a little jealous.

Am I the only one?

YES YES YES YES YES!!!!!!!!!!!!

But I am a total carb addict. Kath really got me one day when she posted about eating roast beef slices smeared with guacamole!!!! Of course, I would love to have that with a nice cold beer too, ha ha ha!

But I love all our Atkins buddies and I am so happy for them, so that puts my jealousy at bay! ;)

I'm not a WW or a Atkin's person. So I get jealous of BOTH of you! :jester:

I'm just making better choices and eating healthy, the weight is coming off in two's every week but some of you guys are losing 3-4 pounds a week.

Ah well. I just need to excersize more and attempt to cut down more on the carbs. :)

What part of low carb do you find restrictive?

Well nothing is really off-limits with WW. Atkins just eliminates and makes too many foods off-limits IMHO. I am glad that it works for a lot of people but I know it is not for me. If I want to splurge on something I just have to built it into my plan. I don't have to eliminate anything from my diet - I just have to learn planning and moderation.

Yes, but sometimes I just want an orange, grapefruit, apple!!

I think it works both way's! :)

Once in a while I'm a little jealous. My DH is on Atkins and I'm on WW. Sometimes he envious of what I'm eating and sometimes I'm envious of what he's eating. I think it's that age old thing of "always wanting what we can't have." In the long run, we both do ok. :D

I'm not ever jealous of the Atkins people because I haven't given anything up.

I've made substitutions, but NOT given anything up. I've found light dressings that I like just as much as real ones. I STILL eat eggs. I have one whole egg, with two egg whites for just 2 points. I buy 50% light cheese instead of the fat free or 75% light cheese, and it tastes just as good. Same with the mayo. The fat free stuff is AWFUL, but the light isn't bad at all, and I think they're both 1 point per tablespoon.

I don't really eat nuts, but I would find a way to work those in. Same with pork rinds. (I won't work those in though because pork rinds are not a delicacy in which I'd like to partake).

And as for bacon and sausage, I LOVE Morningstar farms breakfast patties. They give me one whole serving of veggies, and have all the taste of the regular stuff. A different texture, but I REALLY love them. And bacon isn't as bad for you as you might at first think. It's just one point per strip I believe.

I also know that I need balance. I could NEVER live without the carbs. Not to mention the testing sticks, and ketosis, and induction......kudos to those who use Atkins, and are finding success, but for me personally, that's too much work.

Don't be jealous! Find things that can substitute and work those in. :)

I think I would feel somewhat restricted with all eating plans since my big thing is portion control....I like LOTS of food...I come from a family that loved buffets! LOL!!
I just couldn't do atkins since I am a lover of carbs! I must eat cereal and bread and I hardly EVER eat red meat and I love my fruits and veggies...so it would not be something that fits me....
As for WW, I can eat almost everything...sure I COULD eat anything, including pizza and cake and so on, but because the points are so high I choose not to....
I eat eggs A LOT!!!! My dh makes the BEST omelettes for me!!! ONLY 2pts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (3 if I want more cheese).
I also still eat cheese...I am learning to like the fat free.
I think an eating plan is a personal choice...WW works for me...I could not give up cereal, potatos, or my fruits and veggies....

Kamy :)

I am not doing Atkins or WW, but my eating plan is very close to WW ( I am eating 1200 calories per day, and following food pyramid guidelines). I also think that I am doing the best plan for me, and I know that everyone else here is doing the plan that is best for them. Because I am hungry all of the time, I do sometimes drool when I read about my fellow WISHer's eating spoonfuls of cream cheese, squirting whipping cream into their mouths, and having big juicy steaks with shrimp (lol). Oh shoot, I need to stop talking because now my own words are making me drool...I better move to another thread.

Every once in a while I'm jealous of the fat and unlimited amounts I read about. However, I've never made it past the first day trying Atkins so I know I'm on the right plan for me! I think Atkins works better for people who actually like meat and vegetables!;)

Let me see. The low carb part!!! That is why I decided on WW. I like my pasta and such. I find I actually eat more balanced than I did before. I would rather have pasta or rice than meat so I know atkins would be hard for me. I want everyone to be successful on whatever plan is right for them!! WW does not work for everyone and Atkins does not work for everyone. Just need to know yourself to be able to choose!!

Sometimes I do wish I could have all that stuff with fat, but I don't know how good I would be at sticking to it.

Also, I know my family (DH and two teenagers) wouldn't want to give up carbs, and I don't think I have enough willpower to avoid the temptation.

WW is good food plan for those who don't mind all that point counting. I've done WW(many times) and been successful until I stop counting! That's why its not the plan for me. This is the first time I've done Atkins, and I believe for the first time I have found a plan I CAN live with! Its all about that.

I didn't want to upset anyone on Atkins. :(

My post was half tongue-in-cheek. I am thrilled that Atkins works for people and I would never begrudge them that. I just know that it is not for me no matter how much I may want some of the fat-filled items that are allowed on Atkins. That really isn't even a big deal because I can have all of that stuff on WW but I usually don't because I don't want to 'waste' my points on them.

I personally could NEVER give up carbs because I love pasta, rice, breads, potatoes, etc. too much. I just need to learn to eat them in moderation and WW helps me to do that.

Besides I was able to have a steak burrito supreme for lunch and it was sooooo tasty (8 pts). What would that burrito be like without the tortilla? :p

"What part of low carb do you find restrictive?"

The low carb part. LOL I did Atkins for a while- lost 5 pounds in a week, hated EVERY minute of it. I had a headache, was irritable (more so than usual) and gained it all back the minute I stopped. It just wasn't for me. Right now, I'm concentrating on exercising, and when that is a habit, I am going to concentrate on my eating habits (I am starting to watch portion size now, I am going to work on MUCH healthier choices later.)

Becka, I'm sure everyone knows that there was no malice behind your post. :) And there's none behind mine -- we're grown-ups and can agree to disagree, right? ;)

Now, to answer your question (which is a good question -- I've been thinking about this myself!), every now and then I'm a teensy bit jealous, simply because of how quickly everyone on Atkins seems to lose.

However, the plan could never work for me because I couldn't sustain that type of diet. It would feel too much like deprivation. I acknowledge that I'm a carb addict but I'm trying to cut back and keep things balanced on WW. I could never switch to artificial sweeteners -- I can't tolerate most of them, and I'm not convinced they're safe to consume in any kind of quantity.

And for every Atkins success story I've read, I've read one where cholesterol went up and problems occurred. These are all the reasons I've chosen to do WW -- for me, it's got to be a sustainable way of life. And of course WW only works if the person on it works the program properly!!

This isn't a slam against anyone on Atkins -- I wish you all the luck in the world in your healthy lifestyle endeavors!! :teeth:

I think before I began following the Atkins plan I would have said that I was a carbohydrate addict. Actually, I did say I couldn't do Atkins because I would miss my fruit too much. I also said it would "kill you" LOL.

Then my sister convinced me to try it for just 3 months, she promised it wouldn't kill me in just 3 months. And it didn't :)

I haven't given up anything except refined carbohydrates and there are things I substitute for those that suit me fine. I never was crazy about pasta or bread. My carb weakness has always been things like potato chips, popcorn, pretzels and mashed potatoes and gravy.

What I learned by promising myself to try Atkins for at least the first two weeks and doing that, was that I lost my appetite. I don't crave any of the things that are off limits for me. It's the strangest thing, really, I never expected that to happen. I didn't believe a word Dr. Atkins wrote about that, but it was true.

The most important thing at my house, however, was that my husbands blood sugar was immediately under control by eating this way. I don't think I could ever tell any of you how important that has been at our house. No more sham rages over absolutely nothing, no more coming straight home and going to sleep and then having trouble getting up for work because he was still exhausted. Our quality of life has improved so much. That's why we continue to follow this plan. We're seeing results and having fun losing weight. Give me the choice of pasta with sauce and lobster with butter and I'll choose the lobster every time, whether or not I'm trying to lose weight.

WW is an excellent program. My mother in law followed WW for years but she wasn't able to control her blood sugar by eating that way. She has also gotten her diabetes under control by eating the Akins way. She was on insulin and glucophage before she started Atkins, she has not had to have an insulin injection since she started controlled carbohydrate eating. WW helped her lose 200 pounds and Atkins helped her lose the last 30 and control her blood sugar. I think she got the best of both worlds :)

The thing is that just because it is right for us doesn't make it right for everyone. Just because WW is right for you, Becka, doesn't make it right for us.

We all have to choose the plan that works best for us as individuals. We are all different so thank goodness there are so many healthy eating plans out there.

I've tried them all, too, believe me. Thank goodness that I finally found a plan that is best for me and you found the plan that is best for you, Becka. I take it you tried Atkins and it didn't work well for you. I'm glad you found a plan that did work.

Don't be jealous of people on Atkins, rejoice in your own success in finding an eating plan that you enjoy.

You'd actually be surprised at just how little flavor, etc. that tortilla adds to the whole thing, once you stop eating them. Besides... I can make up for any missing tortilla with sour cream... guacamole... lots of melted cheese... ;)

Isn't it nice that we have so many choices, and can choose the one that's best for us?

For me, life without tortillas would not be worth living. Heck, here in Texas tortillas are one of the 4 major food groups!

I enjoy my carbs and am quite content to limit my fats. That's pretty easy for my, so WW is a good fit.

Yes, I am sometimes envious of the completely decadent foods that our Atkins friends munch on. But when I'm having a snack of a 98% Fat-Free Whole Wheat Tortilla with a little CoJack cheese (made with 2% milk) melted in it (3 points), I'm quite content.

We're all different, with different schedules, habits, likes and dislikes. Options are wonderful things!
