I'm doing WW on my own - I have the books, etc but I have run into 2 questions on my first day and I'm hoping some more experienced WWers could help. First is there a limit to 0 point items a day? I had 4 0 point veggies today and all were a single serving size but just wanted to be sure that is ok. Additionally I am supposed to have 24 points a day and right now after dinner I'm at 18. Should I eat more to get to the 24? Is it ok to be considerably under? Thanks in advance. :)

kayeandjim00,

There are no limits on veggies unless you eat VERY LARGE quantities but I don't think that would be possible. It's almost impossible to gain weight from eating too many veggies. Now startchy veggies like potatoes, corn, peas etc are different.

Other 0 point foods are different though. If you only eat one, no problem. If you eat more than one serving add up the points and see where you are at. Something that is 0 points but right under in calories could quickly add up to several points if you eat several a day. So just watch your portions and servings on 0 point foods. I go by .5's so I do eat 1/2 point foods. I also round up or down to the closest .5. Some people only round up.

Please try to find something else to eat. Your body can go into starvation mode if you don't eat enough and you will actually gain weight rather than loose. I have even noticed it if I only was low one day. Your body thinks its getting starved and it holds onto water and fat for later use. If you get the proper number of points in then your body knows your not trying to starve it. My suggestion is to drink some milk. Try eating something that fills a nutritional requirement. Many times getting all your dairy in is tough. If your full, make it something that isn't too filling. Possibly a tablespoon of peanutbutter, cheese and crackers. Something that isn't bulky and large but will get those points gone. Eating sweet empty calories usually does more harm than good. I do better and feel better if I eat my extra points with healthy things.

I hope this helps.

Melanie

Thank you so much Melanie. I have been trying to stick to the very basics this first week with mainly fruit/veggies/dairy/etc. and not very much processed foods so the only 0 point things I have had were veggies. I was thinking of milk as well so I'll have milk and maybe some peanut butter and crackers to get me to 24. I definitely don't want my body to hold on to ANY extra water or fat. :teeth:

Melanie is right. EAT those points! A glass of milk is a great way to get in those points - good for your bones too. The very occasional low point day isn't going to hurt you, but you certainly don't want it to become a habit. I try to eat the most points possible and still lose. Later, during maintainence, I will be able to eat more as well, which I think will help me to remain successfully in maintainence.

Keep up the good work! :)

I just joined WW online (I did WW 2 years ago) and I opted for the core plan, but after a few days I am wondering if the points plan is better. Just wondering what you all might think. I really want and need to lose this weight and I was just curious about the 2 plans. Which seems better etc. Thanks!

Marlene

Geetey and Melanie are exactly right- you want to be sure to hit your points target each day. Eating too little is really going to backfire on you.

Probably the most difficult balancing act you'll do is learning our to get lots of good "bang for your buck" nutrition each day. Drinking milk to use some of those leftover points is a GREAT suggestion- most of us don't get our daily quota of calcium.

If you find you have points left toward the end of the day, review your necessary servings of healthy stuff- did you get enough calcium? Protein? A little carb, a little fat (just a little, but it's really important to get *some* each day), veggies, fruit?

Try to make a point of using those "leftover" points to pack in something nutritious, and not just empty calories.

Some good options for that end of day snack if you've got a few points left: milk, yogurt, cereal, cheese and crackers, banana, toast with a dab of peanut butter...

:earseek: Kathy? Is that you?? Hey - you look different! Nice new name!! How are you? I hope everything is going well.

Kathy is right. She is the one who pointed out the milk trick to me. It works too. Doesn't it, Kathy?

Yep... it's me.

I've been hiding from WISH for way too long, Terry! But it's a new year, and I'm BACK.

Just had a glass of milk, and I'm ready to behave myself. princess:

Guilty as well. I have been sticking with the marathon threads and journaling. Too much other stuff going on, and I haven't focused on WWing. I lost my 55 pound clippie in the board change and since I no longer deserve it  I haven't put anything back. After Jan 10th, I will be getting back to LOSING and not just walking. I will have to see which clippie I can rightly sport at that time.

Thanks to all of you - the help I find here at WISH is just the best. :) I ended up having a piece of light bread (1 point) - 1 Tbsp peanut butter (2 points), and 1 cup of milk (2 points). I will be aiming for using every one of those points everyday. :teeth:

Perfect, Kaye!!! Sounds like you're doing great.

If you have any questions, you'll find some WONDERFUL folks here who have been using the program for some time now with great success. They are truly a wealth of information, and are always happy to share their enthusiam and support!
