WTH China???

The Chinese are a very different people than we. If I'd known they were having a rabies problem, I'd have known immediately that they were going to kill the dogs. That's how they do things. Their methods are not correct by American standards, and sometimes brutal, but they are always effective.

September 11, 2001, the Chinese said, "No more arabs on our planes." There were arabs there saying, "Hey, but we need to get out!" China didn't care. Those folks had to find another way out. And if the arabs had attacked China the way we were attacked, China would have wiped out the entire arab world. That's how China is.

And they don't care what the rest of the world thinks. They really don't. They also don't care how the rest of the world fares. When they become the superpower, they won't be doling out money to the rest of the world like the USA has.

And they will always say Americans are hypocrites. When that Elian Gonzales business happened and there were the pictures of the hooded men going in to get him and the one with the guy pointing a rifle at him, the Chinese put it all over their front pages with sayings like, "Here is what the morally superior Americans are doing."

And the Chinese didn't technically force women to have abortions. They said that couples could only have one child. They had a serious population problem, people were starving, and they were running out of room for them. So, that's what they did. They have since let up on that.

I'm not defending China's actions across the board. They are just different. They see a problem and find a solution and to hell with the fallout.

Aren't the Chinese the ones who kill girl babies because they want to have more males in their nation and don't see the importance of women?

Not to stir controversy or have someone flame me but I think these are people who over-do. A dog has rabies so they go and kill every dog that runs across them. They want more males for their army or whatever reason, so they leave girl babies to die or kill them too. Many of our products may come from China, but the Chinese lack common sense and importance of life whether it be human or animal.

That's just my opinion-poor puppy!! :sad2:

:sad1: No matter what the culture is, it doesn't make it any less heartbreaking.

It China dogs are not pets but rather a food source. I don't condone beating animals but we do many things in this country that don't stand up to the scrutiny of the world. If these animals are carrying rabies and other diseases they need to be put down. China often doesn't have the means to vaccinate it's people against horrible disease let alone worry about animals.

And no, crazy4disney01 they don't go around killing baby girls. There's a lot of misunderstanding about the way girls are viewed in China. Parents there love their children just as much as we do. However, often the reality of paying taxes for more than 1 child is beyond the means of many families. Since boys traditionally care for their aging parents and China is just now starting to westernize it's retirement thinking families need a son. Girls are not throw out but rather left someone safe to be found and hopefully adopted. Families can adopt a 2nd child without tax penalities.

Be careful here. The last time I criticized China for their treatment of animals, the dog and cat fur trade is even more nauseating, (being beaten to death is quicker) I was branded as culturally insensitive. Fur trim on gloves, hats, etc doesn't not have to be labled as to type or species. The US bans larger furs from dogs and cats. Europeans are a big market for dog and cat fur. I can't remember what Canada's policies are with regard to this. Consider what you have seen with regard to animals. China's policy of forced abortion and in many instances, at least in the near past, forced infanticide highlights their inhumanity. Then of course is their treatment of their own prisoners, billing families for the cost of the execution bullet, etc. The list is exhaustive.

That is their official policy but the imbalance of males to females is still predominant, particularly in rural areas. It didn't get that way by "accident". www.newsmax.com/archives/articles/2004/12/15/112856.shtml

I know it didn't. I've read quite a few books set in China 50-100 years ago. Many very poor families sold their daughters as servants in order to survive. Others did turn to infanticide. I don't begin to understand all the complexities of this country but having been there and met many people they honestly aren't much different that you or I. They want what is best for their families. Given the choice of having my daughter face a life of servitude, severe malnutrition or prostitution I can't say I wouldn't think she'd be better off not living.

Having a child adopted from China I'll admit to having little tolerance for ignorance regarding the treatment of children in that country.

For what it's worth Canada for years clubbed seals to death for their skins. It was the only method that ensured the skin would be intact.

We disagree with their policies, but we keep buying their products. People are lining the streets of Miami cheering for the imminent death of Castro, yet we rush out to buy anything we can get our hands on made in that other communist country whose human rights violations are just as bad. So, everyone who bought something made in China today might as well have been beating that dog themselves.

Unless you are Amish, there is a good chance you have quite a bit of those goods yourself, so what's your point?

I disagree with some of the policies of our own government so does that mean I shouldn't buy "made in the USA"?

No flames from me. We are in complete agreement. France is another story. ;)

This is a culture that is philosophically different than our own with respect to the value of animal life. We don't have to agree with it, but in some sense, they probably are saving some small amount of human life by doing this.

Good points.

Did you read the article? These WERE pets! The article said that in recent years they have taken in dogs as pets and 70% of rural homes had dogs as pets. Owners were out walking their dogs when their dogs were grabbed from them and beaten in front of them! They went into towns making alot of noise so that dogs in homes would start barking so they could find them and kill them. They were pets!

Considering what the Chinese have been doing to the Tibetens for the last few decades what do you expect?

I've got goosebumps, tears in my eyes, and that growing feeling of anger welling in my stomach.

I don't think they should be allowed to have domestic animals in that coutry. Whenever you turn around, they're doing something horrendous. $0.63 huh? How much would it cost to just have the animals vaccinated?

I'm glad to see that their catching hell....

I hate to admit it but this *IS* a case for PETA. That's horrible. I don't care if the culture is different. Cruelty and barbarism is the same everywhere.

Totally agree.

That is just absolutely disgusting.

The Chinese don't eat a lot of dog. It's not too good from what I hear (I don't eat foreign food, dog included.) Koreans eat a lot of dog.

Some Chinese families did kill girl babies. Not because they like boys better, but because boys can do manual labor better than girls and can support them in their old age. Also, there was a ridiculous tax on for more than one kid, so it wasn't like they could try again. There isn't a big welfare system to help people out or take care of the old.

And they let up on the One Child rule for the obvious reason that you can't have a group of people killing off girls and have much hope of reproducing. Their population problem was curbed. It wasn't pretty, they didn't care.

This dog thing - if they are admitting to 3 dead people, you can bet it is between 500-1000. They lie about how many people are sick/dead during stuff like this.

And you'd be hard pressed to buy anything these days that doesn't have Chinese parts in it. With all the taxes and EPA stuff involved, it is actually to cheaper to buy it in China and spend thousands of dollars to have it floated over and put on a train to get to you than it is to buy it from someone here in this country. That's not a political statement, it is just the truth. There are lots of business people who would prefer to buy the stuff here - they like this country and it'd be faster...it just costs too much.

Read this its interesting

I don't understand why people posts links to these atrocious things. I know the OP is outraged and wanted us to be too....but I am too sensitive when it comes to animals and I knew better than to open the link because I don't want to sit and cry at work.
there are just horrible things in this world and its really hard to see them sometimes. :guilty:

This is disgusting, but then again, this is the same culture that puts up their little girls for adoption. At least they don't club them to death.

Interesting, but not surprising.

China's pediatric population is around 280 million. With a 10% disparity in male:female ratio (many experts are saying that the population in China is rapidly approaching 45% female to 55% male) , that translates to almost 30 million more men than women.

This is a MAJOR demographic nightmare, and just shows you that one should not go around messing with Mother Nature.
