"Wrong number" stories

The lady who had the phone number I inherited with my new cell phone had a very interesting life... :scared1:

Some guy sent over a NEKKID picture of himself :scared:

She's gotten LOTS of calls from the doctor's office...

She's also seemingly hasn't paid a bill on time in life due to all the threatening calls she gets from creditors!! :lmao:

Once, we were getting all these calls of people replying to a shower invitation. We would answer and people would be like, "hi this is Sheila and I will be coming to the shower." We found out the wrong # was printed on the invitations.

I have two stories that are very similar but one happened to me and the other to my mother.

First my story.
I got a phone call asking me if Paul was there. Since my husband's name is Paul I said "Yes, may I ask who's calling?" Tell him it's his Father, Bob. Bob just happens to be my Father inlaws name but this was not THAT Bob. Turns out there is another Bob out there that has a son named Paul.

Second story, my Mom's.

My Mom got a phone call asking for Jane which just happens to be my Aunts name (Dad's sister). Since my parents live across the street from my grandparents she just figured someone was looking for my Aunt at her old address. She told the person that Jane wasn't there but she would pass on the message. The woman said to tell Jane that Stacey was calling. Stacey just happens to be the name of my other Aunt who is the sister of Jane. This was not THE Stacey and she was not looking for my Aunt Jane.

Totally wierd!

My former boss sent out an email for a conference call with the wrong number on it- it was for a phone sex line. That would have been an interesting conference call. What would the recap notes been like???

:lmao::rotfl2::rotfl: OP here; these are awesome! Thanks for brightening up an otherwise "blah" day. Oh, and keep 'em coming!

When my Dh was in grad school we ended up with the same last 4 digits as Little Caesar pizza, but with the other local first 3 digits. We were getting pizza calls all the time so we started screening calls with the message of "Hi you have reached X and X, not Little Caesars. If you want to speak to us leave a message, if you want pizza then call Little Caesars". People would actually leave a pizza order on out answering machine.

My mother did that one time. She went to call a cousin and was off by one number. Well it turns out that the woman that answered had the same name. On top of it--she had a cousin with my mother's name.

The conversation went on for several minutes before my mother realizes she had the wrong cousin.

My parents have had the same phone number for YEARS (I'm talking probably since they've been married, so since 1984 at least) and just recently within the past two years or so, we kept getting calls for a doctor's office. Constantly. One day, after about 4 calls in the same morning, my mom decided to call the doctor's office and fond out it was a psychiatrist. No wonder we got a LOT of calls on Monday mornings and the days following holidays. One Monday about 2 summers ago I was home from college and the phone rang constantly from about 8:00 a.m. to 10 a.m. (9 calls or so). Not only was it a Monday, but it was a full moon, too! :lmao:

And then I've occasionally gotten calls for my mom on my cell phone, because we're one digit apart on the end, but nothing earth-shattering!

if it wasn't one digit off from the real confrence number, makes you wonder where he got it!!!;)

I used to dispatch for an ambulance service that had multiple phone numbers. One of the numbers was frequently dialed by children playing with the phone. It was always the goal to get the kid to put their mommy or daddy on the phone...but the kid usually hung up before that happened.

Another line was apparently one digit off from a pizza place. Because we also got a lot of people trying to order pizza. I guess no one listens when we answered the phone with the name of our ambulance service:
"Thanks for calling (company name) ambulance. This is (my name). How can I help you?"
"I'd like a large cheese and pepperoni"
"I'm sorry. You've called (company name) ambulance. Do you need an ambulance sent to your location?"
"No I'd like a large cheese and pepperoni pizza."
"I'm sorry you'll have to call a pizza place for that."
"Oh, you're not the pizza place?"

Occasionally we would just take the order. Fortunately no one ever called back to ask why their pizza had not been delivered yet.

My old phone number was 1 digit off the city police. Our was 555-7743 theirs was 557-7743. Many messages for a random officer and i flipped on someone calling an emerency at 230 am with a new born who just went to sleep. Sorry if you need the police at 230 am dial 911

We have a number that is apparently very similar to a man who is named Jason. I have a son named Jason, so there have been a few very confusing phone calls, but this one is my favorite

:lmao: It makes it even more funny when you do get mixed names like that. We had a situation once in our family but we actually KNEW the caller, it was my best friend -- she was talking to my mom thinking it was her mom & the neighbor she was out with was named Kathy!! My sister's name is Kathy!!!

So, they had this whole conversation without either one realizing who they were talking to about "Kathy's here with me and we will be home later at such & such a time" -- until my friend said something about Kathy eating a big mac (which my sister wouldn't have done) & my mom going "who IS this?"

I can't remember any weird wrong number calls other than that.

DH likes to drunk dial his friends when we are in the car (no worries, im driving and not drunk ;) ) Well one night we were on our way home from dinner and drinks and he tries to call his friend Carl but accidently dialed Carmine's pizza instead. The first time the guy hung up on him so DH called back (still thinking he was calling Carl) and they guy there talked to DH for a good 15 minutes - almost our entire ride home :lmao::lmao:

This isn't a wrong number story, but still a funny solicitor phone story.
Years ago, my mom answered the phone and could tell it was a solicitor because they said "May I speak with Mr. Name?". Of course, my mom said my dad wasn't there so the solicitor said "May I please speak with his wife, Mrs. Name?" My mom then replies "You mean he's married?!!" :rotfl2: The lady quickly says she will call back another time and hangs up. If only you could see people's faces through the phone :rotfl:

Not really a wrong number, and it wasn't funny at the time, but it actually resulted in this life as I know it now, so it ended well. :) Sorry for the length; I just don't know how to make stories short.

Back in 2000, my cellphone company kept goofing up somehow. Calls were getting switched...so I would call my friend Shirley and would get someone else. Someone would call me, they would get someone else. Since the numbers are generally programmed in the phones, it's not the caller's fault, but the cellphone company. Or maybe the phone company, because it was doing it to and from LAND lines as well as cellphones. It was weird.

One day, during a semi-off time in the off and on "relationship" I was in (one in my long string of dudes I shouldn't have gotten involved with), I decided to call the guy. So I called from my cellphone to his landline. The connection sounded weird even as it rang, and then a woman with an accent answered. She answered really definitively, like it was HER phone, not like it was a friend's (if I answer a friend's phone I'll say "this is so-and-so-'s phone, friend-Molly speaking" or something like that), but also not aggresively like it was some new chick trying to psych out the competition (I do not miss my 20s).

I was really freaked out, as that was moving FAST, even for him...and I just hung up, without asking for the dude.

After that, I was DONE with him. I'd never wanted a relationship with him anyway, and he'd sucked me into fighting for him for too long, so I was FINISHED.

I finally decided I was done with the otherwise-involveds, the drug-users, the alcoholics...basically done with my daddy-seeking nonsense...and I was ready for a Good Guy.

Something like...2 weeks later, I decided to go to a work party, and I met the Good Guy! That I would have met a few months earlier at work, if I hadn't called in sick after an all night argument with the guy I was "involved" with. If I'd met him, I wouldn't have looked at him, as I wasn't ready for a Good Guy yet.

Good Guy is now hubby.

The ex called me one night...wanted to come over around midnight...I told him that I was going to be going on a 3rd date that night, and the new guy seemed to be a really good guy, and that I would have to decline that "lovely" invitation.

YEARS later I was thinking about it (while driving the stretch of road where I'd been when I called the ex, back before phone-use-while-driving was banned here) and I realized it was very very likely one of the switcheroos that was happening all the time. The guy was a bartender, and I knew all the women he came into contact with (it's how we met, so I kept an eye out), and he just didn't know any women with accents...so it was this weird, flukey, phone company moment that caused my entire life to change.

And thank goodness it did! :)

The last 4 digits of our number has 2 reversed numbers as a local vitamin store and at least once a week I get a call for them. I'm so tempted to pretend I know what im talking about but then I have the vision of the person taking whatever vitamin they were asking about and it reacting horribly to their medication and they die, and then they trace the phone call back to me and I would be arrested for involuntary manslaughter. Oh, and I'd feel bad for taking that persons life too :rolleyes1

I have several:

-When I transferred to Truman, my first roommate was named Jessica. I am named Jessica. The roommate she had before me was named Jessica. This resulted in lots of phone confusion! Whenever somebody asked for Jessica, the standard resonse was, "which one?" It always confused them when they would tell us they wanted Jessica R (the old roommate) and we would tell them that she didn't live there any more. I loved those phone calls!

-I got a call last night. I answered and somebody asked, "who is this?" I'll admit, I got a little bit fude at about 9:30/10:00 at night and responded, "you called me." I hate that! I'm not telling some random stranger who I am.

-Not a wrong number, but for awhile a guy in my hometown would call random numbers until a young sounding girl answered and he would say he wanted to leave a message for their father. He would then threaten to kill them if they hung up and would talk dirty to them. Althoguh I was older than most of his victims, I have a young voice. Thankfully my mom was home and listened in. She had heard of it so she knew what it was about and he never got that far in our conversation.

I was the only one he ever called back and he called me a total of three times (that we know of. If an adult answered he hung up). The police were actaully talking about tapping our phone if he called one more time. They caught him several years later, he worked for the phone company!

That is just creepy!:scared1:

these are too funny!!
Our town holds annual townwide garage sales. We live in a neighborhood where we do not get a lot of traffic so we always haul our stuff to my brothers house because they are off Main Street. So for 2-3 year wehold these sales and this same *special* woman comes to the house and buys 1 item, goes home comes back and buys another item. She is really sweet and talks to us as she is looking through our stuff. One time she buys a big fake plant and somehow talks my SIL into carrying it home for her. (so now we know the street she lives on)

About 2 weeks after that last sale she calls my house. I don't remember what she was looking for, but it was a wrong number. She calls back 2-3 more times even though I tell her she has the wrong number. By that 3rd phone call I am thinking to myself she sounds very familiar, I look up her name from the caller ID and find out it is that garage sale lady!!
I never did hear from her again
