we havent used h and r in several years we used them 2years in a row and both times they messed things up terribly, during tax season they hired folks who go through a training, but they are tax specialists or cpa's

I also think you should go to a regular CPA/tax guy next year. Local.

I have a semi-complicated return (I am self-employed, with K-1's from our corporation, etc.) and with all schedules - Federal and State - I pay $195.

I use Turbo Tax online and it's easy. I just follow everything it says. Give it a try! It'll definitely save you money.

I'm a corporate tax lawyer and I use TurboTax. Works like a charm. I check the return after it prints to make sure everything is calculated correctly and that the software didn't screw anything up. I've never had a problem. That said, my personal taxes are relatively simple. If I add layers of complexity over the next few years I'll find a CPA.

I don't trust H&R Block (the McDonald's of tax preparers). I'd be better off doing it myself with the Internal Revenue Code, the Forms and the Instructions, and an abacus.
