Monday morning I was called into a special meeting after work to discuss more concerns that administration has with my job performance. I know I have mentioned problems at work before, so I am sorry for venting again. They are no doubt trying their hardest to get rid of me. I nearly fell off my chair when they had documented and read off dates I allegedly rolled my eyes at the teacher when she asked me to do something. When I said I was unaware of ever doing so the reply was that is no excuse. They went on to say that even if I sigh from now on that will be documented.

It was even reported that I was in a room with one of our students and not surpervisoring the student but letting him run wild. I haven't step foot in that paticular room yet at all this year. I really like my job and would like to keep it but it seems impossible. I am into my 7th year and after 8 years will be vested so I can have a pension when I retire. I sure would hate to lose that. This is all so unfair. They are getting rid of aides left and right due to a budget cut, for whatever reasons.

Now I am terrified cause I had to call in sick today cause of a bad cough and cold with all my joints aching. I also have a head ach, and can hardly breathe from congestion. We are suppose to take the kids to the park all day for a October fest with another school. I can hardly make it through a normal day let alone spend the day outside were it is cold and damp chasing the students. No doubt the fest will be used against me saying I called in because of that. I was really looking forward to it, but I just physically can't handle it.

I know there is nothing anyone can do for. I just appreciate the fact that someone will listen cause I sure need to talk about it. Everyone at work is aware how sick I am cause all day yesterday I was coughing my head off, but yet I know that won't make a difference. AS I said thanks for listening. Sure wish I could go lay down but that makes the coughing worst.

Are you represented by a union? This might be one of the few cases where I'd actually find a union useful. If so, go to your steward and tell them exactly what is going on. You can file a grievance, and I believe that your steward can accompany you to future "meetings". Also, document everything that occurs that could be misconstrued, including any witnesses. If they are flat-out making things up, do you have people who would be willing to speak up on your behalf? That sounds like a very frustrating situation.

At this point I am very sorry to say there is probably nothing you can do. I'm in management, and if they've gotten to the point of having "special meetings" about your performance, then it's all just paperwork from here.

I missed your previous posts about this; does the teacher have an especial dislike of you for some reason? Because if layoffs are all that is really going on, they don't need to be this elaborate about it.

Yes, we do have a union, but not a stong one. Reason I said that is because the vice president of our union sat in on that meeting with me and the Grievance chairperson also. Neither one said a word as I tried to defend myself and was shot down. Afterwards the grievance chairperson's remark to me was, "wow sounds like a witchhunt to me. this sure is wicked" The she said she would look into the guidelines to see if she could file harrasement charges after I had recommended that. Many other aides said that it is a waste of time to try this with administration.

Looks like my days are numbered no matter what I say or do.

If you go to the doctor and have a note they can't accuse you of faking it. I would watch my P's and Q's and try to do everything with a smile on my face (even though I know you are hurt)...you might still be able to pull this around.

There is one teacher who I had worked with several years that tried to get rid of me along with many other aides. I am the only one who survived her wrath. We have a brand new teacher in our classroom who doesn't know me from adam. She was told to document my every move. She is doing as she was told cause as I said eye rolling is being brought up. I swear on my life I am not aware of doing that. If I had a way of getting a hold of the old teacher that was in the room she may be able to stand up for me but I don't know how to get a hold of her. I brought up my pass reviews which were all great but they are not taking those into consideration.

Sounds to me you have a great wrongful termination lawsuit shaping up. I hope you have copies of all your past great reviews.

I thought of that they don't have an opening until next Thursday. I am sure by then I will be better. I do watch my P's and Q's. As a matter of fact many aides are telling me how sorry they are cause as many have said I am one of the nicest ones around. :confused3
word travels fast around that school. all the aides are on pins and needles wondering if they are the next one. This one paticular teacher appears to have a lot of pull there.

Try harder to be seen by somebody. Anybody. Go to Urgent Care, see another doctor or see a physician's assistant. Get a note. You will need it! Without it, your illness will look like insubordination.

Do you get along with the new teacher? Why is she tracking your every move and mood? Who asked her to do it? If you get along with her, then work with her to make your environment better so she doesn't have anything to report.

Sorry if you covered this before ... I didn't read your previous posts on the subject.

Yes, I do get along with the new teacher. administration told her to document everything. She has to do it with all the aides in the class from what I understand. Like I said all the aides in all the other class rooms are nervous.

It's too bad the administration is using her as a narc :(. Do you know what they are documenting? What you are doing "wrong"?

like I said they mentioned times and dates were I was supposed to of rolled my eyes. Yesterday I must of rolled my eyes a million times and didn't realize it since I was coughing so much and so hard.

I am still having a hard time understanding eye movements as grounds for termination. Sounds pretty ridiculous. I wonder at the teacher...is she afraid for her job too and that's why she's being the mole?

She is brand spanking new so I have no doubt she is following their instructions to the letter. She even apologized to me after the fact. Said she hated being put into this position.

I understand her being afraid, but really, who's gonna know if she doesn't write down every eye roll?

Now, the meaty question: Are you rolling your eyes (even once in a while) at the teacher or instructions or anything school related?

Yes, I know. One should not "roll their eyes". We all know that and you probably need to wipe that expression from your face. I know that I roll my eyes in a conspiratorial kind of way ... like I'm doing it *with* the person and not *at* the person. If you do the same thing it could be taken the wrong way.

Was the eye rolling the only problem? What else is the teacher looking for? Did they tell you? Sorry about the game of 20 questions! I understand if you're not up for it.

I came right out at the meeting and told them that I was totally unaware of the times I rolled my eyes. To which the reply was no excuse. I honestly do not remember any times when I would of. I thought everything was going great. I never complain when asked to do something cause I look at it as it is part of my job. I may ask to have things repeated if I didn't understand exactly what was asked of me. Not sure what else will be documented. I figure I will continue to work hard, follow directions like I always do and hope for the best. I was always told that if you did that you'd be alright. I'd like to believe that is true. I have always told my two DDs that and hope I haven't been misleading them. Sure am doubting right now after what I am experiencing.

I've always told them be honest, work hard, be pleasant and you'll go places. Isn't working for me lately. Always did in the past.
