Well...I am looking for information from those who know...
Advice on writing books, getting it even looked at!printed, steps to take, good websites..etc...

I have been wanting to write one for a long time and have been afraid of failing...but I just have to try...

Any info. is most welcome!

Good for you!!!:)

Someone here has a quote from Star Wars in their signature - I like it...

"Do or not do. There is no try"

Do it!!!

I have found writing.com a great resource. I'm not even close to starting writing yet, but some really great hints and tips there. Depending on the kind of books, eharlequin.com is helpful too. Hope this helps

I will check that website out...

Does anyone work for a printing company or something like that? I know their needs really vary and they do not want too many of the same kind of book...

Opinions? Ideas? Suggestions?

thanks!
Stefanie

I have wanted to write for some time now as well. I've spent endless hours daydreaming about it. And the the dark clouds fill the sky and I come back to reality and ask myself exactly when do I plan to have the time to do it? The answer, NOW. I'm not an experienced writer, heck I never even wrote for my school newspaper and did'nt even do to well in my college literature classes writing papers. But at the end of the day that does not matter. We get better the more we do something, whether its writing, singing, painting, or anything else. Do it for the joy. I joined my church choir last year after prodding by a friend and I could not even read music. I'm learning and in the process I found out I have a pretty good voice. I never would have known if I did'nt try. As far as what kind of book a publisher would want, who cares? Write from your passion whatever it is because the best things come from your heart. What are you passionate about? Trying to formulate your writing to fit someone elses idea of what the public wants would only hold you back.

So GO FOR IT! You may stop and start 100 times, but thats okay great things take time, and perseverance.

I totally agree! We all get so afraid of failure that we do not even try! I just need to work on it! (and find the time to do so! :)

a great reference book:
Writer's Market Online
www.writersmarket.com
Gives you detailed editorial info and submission guidelines as well as up to date contact info. - lets you see WHAT a publishing company is looking for, and IF they even accept unsolicited manuscripts. Reading it can be both inspiring and depressing. Either way, it is not a waste of money IMHO.
Availible at your local bookstore and probably your local library as well. You get the book and an online subscription good for 1 year from the date you activate the info in the front of the book. A wealth of information. Over 1000 pages in fact.
Good Luck to you.
