Ok. After giving it some thought I've decided to post on this thread. It's a fun idea. Now let's see if I can think of ten. :)
1. I graduated ranked among the top ten (can't remember if it was 7th or 8th) out of about 800 students. :woohoo:
2. I love art and have a fairly good knack for it. I prefer working w/ pencils but I have also done oil pastels and one oil painting.
3. I've seen the Painted Desert, the Petrified Forest, the Grand Canyon, Muir Woods, Yosemite National Park, and Yellowstone. :sunny:
4. I get more nervous talking on the phone to someone I don't know than I do w/ public speaking. :confused3
5. I am a registered Republican and think of myself as what has been called a "compassionate conservative".
6. I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. We are commonly known as Mormons.
7. The longest story I ever wrote was 41 pgs. long w/ 15 "parts". It was an account of all that happened in my all-state choir exprerience--one of the best experiences of my life :goodvibes .
8. I have had 2 major surgeries in my life: a spinal fusion when I was 10 and the removal of the head of my right femur when I was 13. There should be an "ouch" emoticon, lol.
9. I'm a, uh, whopping 4'4", 72 lbs. ;)
10. I have Congenital Muscular Dystrophy, as do my sister and mom, although my mom's case is less severe. It is a progressive disease that begins at birth in which the skeletal muscles slowly waste away, causing increasing weakness and loss of mobility. Because of the disease, I also have orthopedic problems (hence the surgeries) and respiratory problems (weak diaphragm muscles...I only have 20% vital capacity, which means I can only use 20% of my lungs). I've been in an electric wheelchair full-time for about 9 years. I have been avoiding bringing this part of my life up b/c I wanted you guys to get to know me pretty well as a person first. I try not to let my disability define me. I know that when people see me in a wheelchair or know right away that I am disabled, it can be hard to think and see past the disability.

If you have any questions about my religion or my disability, feel free to ask. I think I have actually mentioned them both, but they were on dying threads  , so I don't know how many people if any read them. Anyway, hopefully this thread isn't dying yet and I won't have typed all this for nothing. Do there happen to be any other physically disabled teen DISers? :)

Wow Danielle! Good for you for being so involved with life even though you have Congenital Muscular Dystrophy (is there an abbreviation for this?). I never knew this about you, and I don't think in any way that your disease defines you. No one would ever guess that! I have one question: I am also in a choir, and I was wondering: how hard is it to breathe properly when you are singing, because 20% lung capacity isn't alot? Thanks! :)

Thanks, Claire :goodvibes . To answer your question, it is pretty difficult to breathe properly and get the adequate breath support in choir. I just do my best to adapt. I take a lot of extra breaths, esp. on long notes (there should also be a "winded" emoticon, lol). I've gotten pretty proficient at making it subtle. :goodvibes I actually can sustain the pitch and quality of the note pretty well; I just might breathe every other measure instead of every fourth measure. Sometimes it can be pretty frustrating b/c lack of breath support has kept me from trying out or getting solos that I know I probably could have gotten if I could only hold the notes out longer; it also limits my range b/c higher notes take a lot more air. I am now a definite alto ;) . But I just have to remind myself that I am still fortunate to be breathing on my own and singing and developing that talent. I've still had several of great opportunities to shine, like making it to all-state, and actually I got 2nd place in our high school's version of American Idol my junior yr. :woohoo: I just picked songs that fit my voice and breathing ability (When You Believe--first verse and Fever--one of my faves). Anyway, that was a pretty long answer to your question...sorry! I've always been bad at summarizing :p . Oh, and the abbreviation for my disease is CMD, or Muscular Dystrophy in general is MD.

Wow, Danielle! You are truly one amazing person! That's awesome how you worked around CMD (thanks :goodvibes ) to sing, go to all-state, win 2nd place!!! Thanks for being such an inspiration! :) :thumbsup2

1) I like to read but I hardly read, I just keep collecting books till they pile up.

2) I put off doing homework till a few hours before it's due.

3) I love doing crafts, sketches and paintings.

4) I have Chronic Fatigue and ADD.

5) I'm an only child in my last year of high school (yes I am not in college and I don't have my own job yet).

6) I am addicted to VMK and Disney. I've been to Disneyland every year sometimes twice a year since I was 18 months.

7) I go to class 1 time a week for an hour to turn in the mountain of homework I have during the week.

8) I have a Dog(Sandy) and Cat(Pumpkin), Sandy has hip displasia, and Pumpkin is just a lazy spoiled cat lol.

9) I'm very emotional, so watch out! I have a glass heart. Me and my Niece are alike we both are very sensitive. She'll get ahold of something like a metal pole and start hitting you with it and when you go to take it away she'll cry for a long time, or if me and Andy leave she'll cry for a little. When Andy and I left for a while she cried a whole day.

10) I bite my nails Lol.

Is this a genetic disease? (I'm guessing that it is, because both your sister and your mom have it) I'm just wondering.

I agree iwth what you said about people not being able to see past a disablility. I think it typically(not always) takes a person who's HAD a severe disease or disablilty to be able to totally look past physical impairments to see the person.
