i have recently been reading that to swim at certain resort pools u need a wristband.. we are going down in march and are either staying at AKL or WL (havent decided yet) :) i dont really understand how this works...how can they check everyones id's? do they give u the wristbands at check-in? im all for stopping pool hopping- but this sounds like a hassal...what if u 4get ur room key? do u really have 2 go all the way back to ur room and get it just 2 swim in the pool?

The only resort I know of that requires the wrist band is Yacht Club/Beach Club. You don't need one at Wilderness Lodge and I doubt you would need one at Animal Kingdom. At Yacht CLub, I didn't even know I needed the wrist band and yes I had to go all the way back to the room to get it the room key. It would have been nice if the front desk had told me about this when I checked in.

when you go to the pool they (CM) will ask to see your room key, and than they will give you your wrist band.

They will check everyone in your party for a room key and issue everyone a wristband when you get to the pool. And if you forget the room key, then you are locked out of your room, right? So make sure you always have it on you. But yes, if you do'nt have a room key you won't get a wristband and won't be allowed in the pool area.

While they don't always issue wrist bands at other resorts, I've seen lifeguards ask people for resort ID's at the BW, Polynesian, and AKL pools as well. (I saw them asking for ID's at the AKL pool on 1/1 while we walked through to a viewing area after having breakfast at Boma, and the pool wasn't even crowded. :confused3 )

I have heard that they always ask for ID and issue you a wristband at the YC/BC pool Stormalong Bay. That is probably due to the fact that a lot of people try to sneak in because they want to try that pool out and it must have been getting too crowded for the real guests of the YC/BC to enjoy.

I myself had to present ID at the BWI pool only once out of the many times I've been there, but who knows when or if the next time will occur. I sure wouldn't have wanted to be one of those people that got asked to leave that day I was there. I felt sorry for the kids. How embarrassing that would be!

Thanks for posting this info. We are staying at the BC in April and will remember to bring the room keys to the pool. I have to say that I think this is a good idea. I am paying top dollar to stay at the BC along with all the other guests. We should be able to enjoy all its' amenities.

Also, unlike many pools b/c of location SAB is a "gated pool". There are several entrances and usually CM's are posted there

SAB is the only WDW resort I know that does this...and generally just during peak times. We have never been issued a wrist band or had our resort id checked.

Last year I stayed at the BCV and I noticed that they were asking for ID's -- more so on the weekends-but maybe I just did not notice the other day--

so I would definitely have your room keys!!

Make sure that you bring a room key for everyone in your party, even the kiddos. They were checking room keys the past July and December. HTH

Also, we were asked once to present our room key at WL.

No, I was not locked out of the room because there was someone waiting in the room while we were swimming.

We have had our id's checked one on one at SAB, AKL, BW, Poly, and GF. We have been issued wristbands at all the pools at peak times.

We have never been issued wrist bands or even asked for ID's at ASMu, Pop, AKL, WL, Poly or CR and we have travelled at various times of year. I know we have been told they may ask for it and I usually have my key, but have never needed to show it and those pools were not issuing ID's during our stays.

We were at the YC last June and sometimes we were asked for ID, but not every time. Our boys are teens and they would often go down to the pool without us. Twice they were asked for ID, but the CM let them in without it(they had to give a room #).

We were never issued wristbands, but on the one day we didn't go to SAB, we noticed everyone had one when we walked by.

If Mom and Dad show ID's do all the kids have to show them too if your go down together? :scratchin

Everyone needs an ID.

While we were at the YC in early December we swam 3 days and all five of us had to show our room keys and get a wrist band. Also, every time we walked by the cast member by the "towel shed" was checking id's. This was true for our two previous trips as well.
