Wrapped gifts in checked luggage?

Can you put wrapped gifts in your checked luggage? My mom's b-day will be during our Sept. trip and we have a few gifts to take for her. I'd like to wrap them ahead of time, if I can, so I don't have to do it there. (We're sharing a room.) I know you can't have them in your carry-on or they will be opened, but I wasn't sure about the checked luggage.

Two years ago, we went to our brother's house in Ft. Myers for Christmas. We brought wrapped gifts, and all of the gifts were unwrapped at the airport. They were unwrapped in a way that destroyed the wrapping and so I needed to purchase wrapping paper and ribbon at my brother's house to redo all the presents we brought. Not sure what advice I would give, actually, in terms of whether to bring supplies from home or to purchase where you are going, but I wouldn't bring wrapped presents.

What about bringing gift bags, tissue paper and ribbon? They mostly pack flat, and this way you won't need tape or scissors to wrap the gifts once you check in.

I took wrapped packages this past Christmas and they weren't unwrapped in my checked bags, but not sure now with the further security. I would call and ask.

This is what I've been doing, and it works out great.

Wrapped presents are fine in checked luggage. The only time they might be opened would be if you put them in carry on luggage, or if your checked baggage was selected for TSA inspection, I suppose there is a chance that they might be unwrapped.

Or you can ship the presents via UPS/FedX ahead of time.

I like the bag idea though.
