I have no idea about the validity of the OP's story - but we all know Disney Magic does indeed happen.

I've always gone to Disney - as a kid, youth group at church, etc. Our honeymoon was originally supposed to be on the Big Red Boat - a cruise for 4 days or something like that. When we arrived, to make a loooong story short, we were told that the boat would not sail until the next day because of a Coast Guard inspection that hadn't happened due to the fault of the company. We were to be put up in a hotel in Orlando for the night and then refunded money the next day (which didn't happen).

After spending hours arguing with the cruise line (which is now out of business) I called Disney to see if we coud get a room in one of the wing rooms at the Contemporary. My wife and I had never stayed there as kids, etc, and since our honeymoon plans were shot we thought we'd treat ourselves. At the time, we knew nothing of "all things" Disney. We always ate counter service and commandoed our way through all the rides and such. While I was making the reservation I mentioned that I was trying to salvage our honeymoon, explaining what had happened. The CM, as I remember said she had seen the story on the news - apparently it was pretty big news in the area for a few days. When we arrived the next day to check in at the Contemporary - fully expecting to stay in the garden wings - we had been bumped up to the Concierge level with a castle view. We still paid for garden wing.

That opened our eyes to our love affair with the place. They certainly did not have to do that for us - and we didn't have any clue that they did that sort of thing.

All that is to say that Disney magic happens. And we're glad it does! That's why we all keep going back, isn't it? It's why we pay $4 for a coke. Cause we love the magic. There's no place like it!

Blessings!
Mark

DH had booked our 25th wedding anniversary for September 20th at Teppanyaki. Well, a CM called me today and told me that it would still be under rennovation. I started crying and couldn't stop to the point I almost couldn't breathe. We had been looking forward to this dinner for years.

He told me to hold on for a few minutes.

When the CM came back on the line he told me that seeing it was our 25th anniversary, Disney would pay for us to have dinner at V&A.

Oh my gosh, DH is going to die!

Troll???:confused3

I have never seen such a negative attitude. Maybe this is the worst thing going on in the OP life right now. If so she is very lucky and good for her if Disney is doing the right thing for her.
She is new to these boards and was excited to share some good news. Maybe all of you with neg feedback are just jealous.
Congratulations to the original poster for the great newsprincess:

I'm not at all jealous, only surprised that she was able to get something that is expensive and usually booked months in advance because she had a toddler-style meltdown over the telephone. I'd have been embarrassed to admit I behaved that way, and I certainly wouldn't have let anyone esle know how badly I'd behaved.

I love Disney and pixie dust as much as the next person, but not when the treat comes because of how badly someone has behaved. Those types of comps fall under the "Let's get this wacko out of our hair asap" and I don't blame a manager for doing it, but it's not the same as the little child who gets a special treat from a CM at the MK because she dropped her ice cream cone.

I think you deserve congratulations as well! Whatever other personal issues brought you such emotional attachement to this rest. and trip are for you to know, not anyonhe else to question. I simply think it is great that someone has been given a wish that will make them happy for a day and make precious memories for the future... Only pixie dust for your trip and good wishes to send you here:wizard: ENJOY!

Dont be so harsh to judje the op. We got bumped outta Allstars to POP.:thumbsup2 one time. Another time we got free parking passes when sometin went astray. I beleive in the magic:goodvibes

That's entirely different. Getting bumped from an AllStar to Pop is an even exchange, they are both still value resorts. Wouldn't cost WDW a dime since the nightly rate is the same. Free parking pass? $10. Meal for two at V&A? Could easily run $300 or more. That would be the equivalent of getting not only bumped from an AllStar to Pop, but having several days added as well as parking passes for your entire stay. Totally different ballgame here.

We recently were lucky enough to get the upgrade from ASMu to SSR for 10 days. There are 7 of us traveling in 3 rooms. The "value" of the upgrade is over $8000 - by far the biggest dose of pixie dust I've ever seen! If WDW can do this kind of upgrade for hundreds of people, I'm sure they can give away a free meal here & there.

Disney magic DOES happen. Pixie dust happens all the time. Sometimes in big ways, sometimes in little ways. Either way, it feels so good to get a dose of the magic dust. It's what keeps us coming back, and keeps us addicted to the Mouse.

To the OP (where are you anyway? ;)) I hope you really did get this amazing upgrade, and I hope you enjoy yourself.

I'm not buying it.

Anyone who would cry to the point of hyperventilation over a canceled dinner reservation (I don't care if it's your 75th anniversary), should be ashamed of themselves.

My .02 cents.

Then you are overcharging!

Consider it done...:thumbsup2

I'm thinking I won't even warn the wife and girls of my plan before we get there. The panicked look on their faces as I melt down into a pool of slobbering goo will definitely add to the effect! Who knows, I might even get the Cinderella Suite?!?!

:rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Oh Lord, don't let some of those budget board people read this thread... they will be tying up the phone lines at WDW dining after watching "Beaches" and eating some raw onion to get ready to call.

:rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Yes, they do! But they have to be real and dripping! I mean when it was happening, I was embarrassed! But, I was too mad to really care, and after all, I never saw any of those people again! I never expected any sort of upgrade. I just wanted Mr. Rude CM to get a good talkin' to, and to sort out our ADR's. Everything else was just Pixie Dust!

I have always found just being nice will get you everywhere!

I think it is great they did that for you . :) And hopefully the rude CM has had an attitude adjustment.

Wow, the most tears ever did for me was get a mid-term postponed in 10th grade :rolleyes1 . I think Disney would be setting themselves up big time to start comping people $300 meals because a restaurant is closed but maybe that's just my corporate background mentality :confused3 .

I am thrilled for the OP but the 1st thing that popped into my head when I read the post is "How many people are now going to try to con a CM with a 'it was a once in a lifetime dinner'....?"

OP I am absolutely not saying you did this, just saying now the seed has been planted.....:rolleyes1

I registered just so I could respond to this thread.

Maybe I am being silly, but shouldn't we give the OP the benefit of the doubt? You can say she bahaved badly, in your opinion, but perhaps it was just the straw that broke the camels back for her. I have a medical condition that makes me EXTREMELY sensitive, so much so that I can't watch many tv shows anymore because I cry so easily. Go ahead and mock me, as I am sure some will, but I can no more help my reaction to a sad 'Cold Case' than the OP could help her reastion to the news that something important to her was not going to happen.

I am a cynic by nature, I never want to believe in the good things, but isn't that what Disney is all about? Good things for ordinary people? I hope so, because I have had about five years of bad luck and I am hoping that a little pixie dust will come my way on our upcoming trip. I don't expect anything from anyone, just the magic of being there will be enough for me.

She cried, people. She's human. She didn't demand anything, the CM offered and this is The Year Of A Million Dreams.

Please lighten up. I hope some of you aren't this mean spirited and negative in real life.

To the OP, have a wonderful anniversary! We will be celebrating ours when we are there as well! I can't wait!

Hi, somechick, and welcome to the DIS!!! No, of course I'm not mean spirited and negative in real life. But if one of my friends told me this story I'd be raising my eyebrows and saying, "I can't believe you did that!" because no one I know in real life would cry like that over being shut out of a dinner at a theme park. It just seems so bizarre to me - and since this is a discussion board, and not a private conversation with someone I know, I'm not quite as willing to be tender and concerned. Because what she got was such "overkill" for what the problem was.

:)

If this was a young girl maybe celebrating her first anniversary I can see getting all upset. But if they are celebrating 25 years she's got to be around 45 years old. I'm sorry but at that stage of your life you've learned to roll with the punches and move on. I can just imagine telling my husband of 25 years that story. :lmao:

But ya know what, on the slight chance it's true, have a good time and if you dare come back come and give us a review of the place. I've never been myself.

man, you people are really mean. If its not true so what!?!? I dont think it is impossible. Look how many people were upgraded from pop to ssr next week?? The diff in that for me would be a few thousand. I mean who knows maybe she met her DH in Japan or in a steak house like that one and having thier 25th there was supposed to be special.

If its not true then the op must be getting a laugh at these reactions.

:goodvibes everyone

Excellent point (and welcome to the board!). Crying does not necessarily indicate bad behavior. It is an emotional reaction, and I can't even count how many times I have cried even when I was fiercely determined not to do so. I also think the OP was writing expressively to show us how much the restaurant meant to her. She may not have had the kind of meltdown that many posters are understandably picturing from the OP's words. It's always so hard to interpret another person's intended meaning in posts. There also might be more to the story (such as why the restaurant was so important to her) that she did not relate in her post but communicated to the cast member. While the upgrade seems fantastic to the point of disbelief, as other posters indicated, some of the resort upgrades are worth much more than three hundred dollars. And although the meal might cost three hundred dollars, there is no way that the actual cost of the ingredients, labor, etc, would actually put Disney out of that much money. Just as in resort upgrades, Disney incurs a loss because it loses the potential to earn that money from another guest. And we have read about truly amazing resort upgrades. So I hope the OP has a wonderful celebration.

congrats OP, I choose to believe you and hope you have a wonderful dinner. :goodvibes I hope the negative responses haven't soured you on these boards. Personally, if I was you, I wouldn't read anymore of the replies. If it was me under such personal attacts, I would be near to tears-yup, I'm also one of those who tears up easily so I understand.

Have a wonderful vacation and enjoy your pixie dust! :wizard: :tink:

OP, if Japanese steakhouses are that important, there's a Benihana at the Hilton in DTD. It wasn't really a romantic anniversary kind of place but it's the same style as the restaurant in Epcot.
