Wow! Wilma's a Cat. 5 overnight!

:faint: I really need to get ponchos before we leave tonight.

Wondering of there's anything else special that we should be packing... Any crucial items you guys can think of just in case? We're staying at POFQ Friday morning - Monday night.

I would be sure to take a flashlight and some extra snacks for the family if you get put into a 'lockdown' situation. Extra water also. We were at the CR for Charley and it was actually kind of funny hearing the CMs tell us we were in 'lockdown'...just doesn't fit in WDW!!!

Nice timing, Laura!! ;) (Guess I shouldn't talk, LOL).

Geez, I thought I'd be able to pack lightly for this quick trip but I guess not. We were going to do a quick grocery run, and I've read before that Disney hands out flashlights to their guests so you probably don't need to bring one. We are bringing our laptop, maybe I'll take a few DVDs. :confused3

goodness gracious! It shocked me as well. We are leaving tomorrow afternoon and staying until Tues. We are suppoesed to go to MNSSHP....Oh my!

I know, can you believe this!?! :confused3 I was also thinking I could pack lightly...oh well. I'm going to pack some snacks for the room, but this was going to be the 1st trip in a long time that we're totally relying on Disney transportation, so no grocery store for us. Wish I had a laptop!
We may get washed out sista... :sad2:

We were in Disney last year during Hurricane Jeanne and were locked down in our rooms at CBR. Disney did a good job in keeping us updated on what was going on with telephone messages and letters slipped under the door. They made sure to notify people to stock up on food for a day and warned us that we were not allowed out of our rooms until they notified us. We went to Walmart the day before and bought some candles and a flashlight. We also picked up a couple of board games to keep us busy. The power never went out and we never even opened the board games. Disney also put on free movies on television all day for guests. We were allowed out of our rooms by dinner time and within a few hours Disney had most of the storm damage cleaned up.

BTW... we changed our plans and flew in a day early because our original flight was scheduled for the day Jeanne was going to hit. The airport was mobbed with people going home early to avoid the storm which resulted in the parks being empty all week.

Good luck!

We are arriving on Saturday. Boy the luck of that huh? I just hope we get there before it really is supposed to hit. Being on "lock down" at Disney is better then not being at Disney at all. (positive thinking....positive thinking)

But I have to say I am getting a little nervous!!
Debbie

I was shocked to see that this morning too.
Everyone be safe!!! :wizard:

Here is the latest projection:

It does seem like this is a fast moving storm that will be over Florida quickly.

Dh is totally freaking and doesn't know if we should go :earseek:

Our flight is due to get into Orlando at 3:30 on Sat. He thinks they are going to cancel all the flights going in.

I am trying to keep him calm and to just not think about it until Friday.

We have tickets for MNSSHP for Friday. I sure how Wilma figures out what she is going to do so that everyone can be prepared.

We're leaving Saturday morning, our plane touches down in Orlando at 9:00am. Great timing, huh?? :teeth: I'm going to the grocery store tonight to get peanut butter crackers, granola bars, etc, but what should we do about buying water? We were planning on stopping at Publix to get water anyway (can't stand that nasty FL water :crazy2: ), but thinking Publix will be a mad house roughly 24 hours before Wilma is supposed to hit. Does anyone know where a grocery store or even gas station is that is a little off the beaten path that might not be so crazy? Do you think it would be better to stop closer to the airport or Disney World? Does it even matter? :confused3 Giving everyone lots of :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard:

Our flight gets in to Orlando Friday night so I guess wew will have ASaturday to kind of prepare and buy extra water and food if needed. It sure will be interesting. But I have a question, if we buy 6 day passes on Saturday and the parks end up being closed on Sunday do we lose a day on those tickets even though we could not use it? We are not planning to buy the non-expiration option because would not be back for a year to use it. Has anyone gone through this before? :confused3

I have lived south of Houston for my entire life and completely freaked when Rita was in the Gulf. We got out early thankfully but Wilma looks a lot like Rita. It strengthened to a Cat 5 in a day but then weakened to a Cat 3 before it made landfall. If I would have known that it was going to weaken to a 3 then we would have stayed. I'm pretty certain that everything will be fine but it would be a good idea to either bring snacks and H2O with you from your home or shop EARLY! The stores will be completely wiped out a day or two before the storm hits. I can't tell you how many people I saw with over 5 cases of water in their baskets and then there wasn't any left for anyone else and that was 3 days before the storm was supposed to hit. People tend to hoard in these situations. :umbrella:

My wife and I are doing a long weekend trip for our 9th anniversary, leaving Friday morning, returning Sunday afternoon... I am thinking, should we just cancel?? Sounds like at best it will be raining non-stop, and at worst we will be confined to our hotel and have problems getting out on Sunday. I can't believe the timing.

We arrive Friday afternoon around 4. I'm really worried because my kids are small. I'm sure our hotel is safe, just wondering if they have flooding problems??

We were planning on stoping at WalMart I guess I'll just add some more things to my list to get. I'm sure the stores will be crazy!!
