We just got back from 7 days at the world. I couldn't fathom how crowded it was there. There was so many people there from other countries. I have never been in August before, so maybe this is normal. My DH a.k.a General Disney was well prepared and knew the plan of attack. We got there early and followed the unofficial guides suggestions. Basicly to get there early and fastpass. We never even stayed for the EMH, because it was so crowded. The lines for the bracelets was too long for us. I think our next trip will be planned for cooler weather and less crowds. Even with the heat and crowds, we still had a great time though. :teeth:

Glad you had a great time...Usually this point in August starts slowing down since a lot fo the country is back in school (with the exception of us crazy New Englanders ;)
Free dining I am sure played a big part in people going right now.

Welcome back!

Well in Europe August is the offical vacation month and the Euro is pretty strong against the dollar so maybe they all headed to Disney.

We got back as well and I think the Free Dining Plan they are promoting has increased the crowds. The crowds were very large, IMHO. That said, good strategies will beat large crowds any day. Fun can be had, even if hot and crowded.

well said

Glad I'm not the only one who thought it was extremely crowded! I've never been in August before either, so didn't really have anything to compare it to. We used FP's like never before and had no problems riding everything! Wish you could FP the Disney transportation, though!! :rotfl:

I guess I'm the odd one out, since I thought it wasn't as crowded as I expected it to be. EMH nights were bad (why oh why did we take the bus instead of driving that night to MK? An hour wait to get on the bus back to POP), but morning ones were good for us. As long as we got to any park within the first hour of opening, we got to go on all the rides we wanted and/or get FP for them with a return time of 1-2 hours later.
We saw/heard many guests from the UK, Austrailia, and Spanish language speakers.

I think next week may be far better in terms of crowds. Monday I booked a resort for next week when an opportunity for a very last-minute trip came up.
Every resort had rooms in every category available - and with a discount!
I was also able to make a couple of dinner ADRs ....

We just got back also and I didn't think it was that crowded either. Our last trip was in July 2004 and it was much much more crowded then. It was wall to wall people in July, but it was far from that this time.

We got back yesterday and I thought it was pretty crowded, too.

But crowds are what you get when you visit in the summer! :)

We were there the first two weeks of August (we came home 8/13/06). I didn't think it was crowded at all. I know the free dining probably made the past two weeks more crowded than the first. I also think it depends on the parks you visit. I did not do early/late entry days and we had no problems at all.

I didnt think it was that crowded... We were there August 13th - 20th(although most of my visits to WDW have been July 4th weekend)

We just followed TGM's advice and rode EVERYTHING more than enough.. Our first day we actually did 11 rides in two hours at MK!!!

One day though we decided to do EMH in the morning for MK and omg it was horrible :rotfl:

We also just got back Monday from WDW. It was so darn busy. Disney must have alloted many more Free dining reservations than last year! I was glad to see a lot more choices for the snack option though. It was fun, and not as hot as last year this time, by a little bit.

We just got back Tuesday and didn't think it was too bad as long as you got to the parks early. By about 1:00 the parks became incredibly busy and that's when we made our way back to the resort to swim. We are used to going in August though. I didn't think this August was much different if any than the previous Augusts we've been. I will say though that I did hear lots of people complaining about the crowds.

We were there the 14th-21st and didn't think it was terrible, either. In fact, on the 15th at about 4:15 walking down Main St I turned to my dh and said, "where is everybody?" It did get more crowded but it wasn't terrible. We went to the parks early, rode what we wanted and headed out between 1-3. We had a great time! :thumbsup2

maybe its a matter of perception, but we were there from Aug. 16-20 and were amazed at how light the crowds were. We did every emh while we were there and they were great. We went on what we wanted and didn't spend a lot of time in lines. I guess we were expecting worse.

We thought it was crowded also. We just returned on MOnday and was there 8/17-21. We go early May and late October every year and the crowds were much, much busier than those times. We tried to stay for EMH at MK on Sunday the 20th....OMG....the line to get your card checked in tomorrow land was so long. It stretched from the underpass by Space Mountain to the turkey leg counter near Buzz Lightyear. The line was so long, a manager just asked to see our cards and handed us our bracelets (which they usually put on for you). That should've been a sign for us, because within minutes the lines doubled for everything. We rode the TTC and left about 30 minutes after the fireworks. We wash our hands of the evening EMH for future trips.

Am I the only one who finds this thread amusing... it's all prespective...One preson's crowd is another person's quite park....
