Wow...Twilight book

I can not believe how much I LOVE this book. I have not seen the movie and kept putting off reading the book because of all the crazy popularity. But, I finally gave in to see what all the fuss was about. I got it from the library yesterday and could not put it down. I will probably finish it today.

Are the rest of the books in the "saga" just as good?

I personally didn't think it was well written, but dd12 LOVED the series (and she's not a reader, unlike her mom). I've heard #4 is the worst one, but I stopped at 1.

They are all really hard to put down IMO. I read all 4 books within 5 days. IMO the first and third books (Twilight and Eclipse) are the best, followed closely by the second one (New Moon). The fourth book (Breaking Dawn) is a bit more controversial-- some people LOVE it and others HATE it. It was definitely my least favorite by far (I didn't hate it, but I really didn't like it much either).

Enjoy reading the rest of the series.

I also read all 4 in several days. Yes I enjoyed them. Yes the writing style is aimed for a younger crowd, but that didn't make any difference to me. I admit I was surprised how fast I was hooked on it.

Yes these books are addicting. I also read all four books in 5 days, I found I could not put them down. I am one who does not re-read books but after I read the series and "Midnight Sun" I went back and re-read the entire series at a more leisurely pace. I truly enjoyed the books so much more.

I felt the same way! My sister kept bugging me about reading them. I finally caved b/c I figured she'd stop annoying me. I read the first three in about a week. I admit, I was at the book release party at Barnes and Noble last July for the fourth one.

I'm definitely one who really enjoyed "Breaking Dawn" (the fourth book). I know a lot of people didn't care for it, but it was my favorite of the series. I was never really a fan of Bella until the last book. I thought some of the things that happened in the books were bit... far fetched, but I still loved it nevertheless.

Oh my gosh, I loved "Midnight Sun"!!! I so was so sad when I came to the end of what she had written so far. I love reading the story through Edward's perspective. It's so romantic!! I had to go back and reread the first book after I finished it.

I'm glad you mentioned that. My husband asked me last night about the book I was reading and couldn't put down. After I told him about it, he seemed annoyed at the fact I was reading a "kiddie" book. So, I started to doubt my book selection, but than quickly got over it. Plus, its written by a mother of three, so how juvenile can it be??

I have never had such a love/hate relationship with a book or series. I suppose ultimately if I had to choose sides, I would fall into the "hate" camp because of how much a detested Breaking Dawn, the movie was a hot mess, and the other problems I had with the books as a whole.

On the plus side, YES, I read them all at lightening speed. Something about the story was tremendously compelling to me despite the MASSIVE flaws. So kudos to the author for at least that. My main problems?

1. The pacing. Nary has a book crawled along at such a snail-stuck-in-frozen-molasses pace....and I've read Great Expectations. Through each book, NOTHING happens for about 2/3rds of the story.

2. The direction. She shifts story arcs and expectations (most notably in New Moon).

3. The characters. I hate Bella. She's weak and whiny. NOBODY is that clunsy without having some sort of inner ear problem. I also have a problem with obsessive love.

4. The let down. TWICE in 2 and 4, Myers builds to this huge earth shattering plot point and then...nothing happens. (i put this in white so as not to spoil it for you)

The ending to book four was a bit...underwhelming. I was expecting this great scene and it just didn't happen.

I was forced to read these books. My son loved them and wanted me to read them.

I liked Twilight okay, liked the second book more, third book was just okay. Now, I know I'm odd here, but I really, really liked the 4th book. Much more excitement. Weird at times, but I like weird. I'm a huge Anne Rice fan and that seemed to follow Anne Rice's stuff.

They are written for teens/young adults, from what I'm given to understand. I enjoyed them very much, no they're not going to be up there among the great literary artists of all time, but that's not why I read 'em. I read 'em for fun, and that's what they were.

I think they are worth reading. My DD13 was WILD to read them and she is by NO means a reader. She read all four books, after me. I hadn't heard of them before she spoke to me about it, so I wanted to make sure they were appropriate for her. I felt they were.

They were entertaining though! I liked Eclipse the best and New Moon the least. I also enjoyed reading the Midnight Sun draft.

For what its worth, Stephenie Meyer recommended a book on her website, The Hunger Games, by Suzanne Collins. It is a Young Adult novel and the first of a planned trilogy. I could not put that book down at all and my husband (who hasn't read a book since high school) is reading it and really enjoying it. So, if you want to be "in" on something before your kids, check it out!

Also, as an adult reader, I am really enjoying the Southern Vampire stories (Sookie Stackhouse) by Charlaine Harris. They are the books the HBO series Tru Blood is based on. I also enjoyed her Harper Connelly books.

I too read them to see what everyone was talkin about. read all of them includin Midnight Sun in about 5 days. mostly thanks to 2 sick toddlers. and most of the adults i know are reading them or have read them so its nice to discuss something other than kids and husbands once in awhile.

They are a good story. Although sometimes you have to wonder what the author was thinking. and book 4 was pretty good, the ending lacks a good ending. if that makes sense.

You'll have to finish them and tell us what you think.

Her writing style is not super memorable, but she sure knows how to tell a story. They were entertaining and addictive for me. #1 was my fave, followed by #2. #3 was sorely disappointing to me, and #4 was sort of a letdown.

I'm thinking I may have to run to the library tomorrow to see if I can get book #2. If not, I may have to go buy it because I doubt I'll be able to wait too long after finishing "Twilight". I'm not very patient.

Is the movie still playing in theaters? I don't remember when exactly it came out but I was thinking its been awhile. I've heard not to expect too much from the movie, but I imagine I would still like it...because I'm pretty easy to please when it comes to movies.

I got all but #2 for christmas. and bought it before i was half way through with Twilight so I could move on to the next. I am not patient either.

Some areas it is still playing. It is here. I got to see it last weekend.

Thanks! I actually have this listed on my "Reading List". So, hopefully I'll get to it soon. With two kids, I sometimes feel guilty just sitting around reading leisurely. But then I think, hey, their watching me read a book, I'm setting a good example that reading is important. That's my story and I'm stickin' to it.

I've also heard good things about these books as well..so they will be going on my "Reading List" too.
