wow! This puts a slight damper on things. Or does it?

My family and I were supposed to be going to disneyland from the 17through the22.

Originally going was to be myself DW, DM,DNiece, DS(1),DD(almost 3).

Now my DM, and Dniece, might not be able to go.

How much fun do you think my wife and I can have with the kids?

Is going on all of the adult rides by yourself not as special?

I'm kinda bummed. Please chime in with your experiences and words of encouragement. THanks

You'll have a fabulous time! There will be plenty of stuff for you see and do. Both kids will be able to ride lots of rides & your daughter will love the princess stuff. Get babysitter passes for the adult rides & enjoy riding by yourself -- it will be your only few moments of peace & quiet! :rotfl:

Hey -- it will cost you less at the churro stand this way!

I assure you a lot of people have riden by themselves and had a plenty good time. It will probably be worse when your DW is riding and you aren't.

And it won't be all the rides. There are so many more that are for the family rather than adults and big kids.

Rider Switch (parent swap, baby swap) helps you guys both get on the rides a bit faster than each of you waiting in the full line.

It will be fine.

We really like riding them separately, as it gives us conversation later on...if it was a ride where you sit with strangers, we can get into conversations with those people (or while waiting in line) and get all sorts of fun things to talk about. WAY more fun than just sitting next to each other, IMO.

Just be sure to have the one waiting with the kids DO something, rather than wait and wait. For instance, while an adult goes on Indy, the other adult takes the kids on the Jungle Cruise. While the other adult goes on Indy, the first-riding adult takes the kids into Tarzan's treehouse. and so on.

But as skiing said, there are many many many rides that you'll all get to go on.

Don't forget to hit DCA's bug's land! It's incredible for the little ones! (and for any bigger ones who love Pixar as much as I do)

We usually travel with extended family on our trips, however our last one we went just with the kids. I am a thrill ride junkie and had the same concerns as you but we had an amazing time. I think DH and I went on all the adult rides once each - as it isn't quite the same as riding with someone IMO. I must say that I didn't miss them though - I missed being with my kids more.

For the majority of the trip we let kids pick the rides and it was amazing. I would have to say the best trip we have had yet. Don't worry about it and just enjoy experiencing the park through your kids!

Honestly we have gone both with our family and then this last trip without anyone besides the five of us and it was WAY more fun. I guess dh might have liked to have gone on a few more "grownup" rides but our dd (age 5)was tall enough to do most of them with him while I waited with the little boys(ages 3 and 1).

Thanks everyone for the encouragement. We really appreciate it. We are gonna have a lot of fun!

We virtually do not go with others and have a fantastic time with own little group.

I think it will be nice to have this special time with your own family. As far as solo rides, we often go on California Screamin by ourselves even though we don't have to (DS is now 16), because we use the single rider line. We'll go a few times together with fastpasses and then single rider it so we don't have to wait;) You'll have a great time.

Uhg! I hate going to Disneyland with extended family....too much work!;)

I much prefer going with my little family of 3. I'm so excited for this trip because DS is finally tall enough for just about every ride, except Indiana Jones. I told him he needed to grow 1 inch in 1 month-I think he can do it!:thumbsup2

IMHO, going with more people (especially with my family) just means more fighting, stressing and general work. I like to run the show, DH likes it too:laughing: and with others it's too difficult to do this.

It is nice to have grandpa or auntie sit with DS while DH and I go on a ride but now that DS is tall enough- we wouldn't really need them anyways.

I say- enjoy this special time with JUST your family! It goes by way to quickly and before you know it you're kids will want to bring friends along on your family vacation because they think you're boring. Or (gasp!) skip it all together.:sad1:
