If I had any doubts that stress causes me to overeat/eat the wrong things, yesterday cleared it up!

My MIL arrived at noon yesterday. I have been cruising along happily easing into atkins (as in, no sugr or white flour products, slowly cutting back other carbs), with no problem. I got up at 7:30 (with baby #2, 2 months old), got everyone dresses, and had an atkins approved breakfast. I packed the diaper bags, etc, rmemmbering to pack a diet cherry coke and one of the little slimfast locarb bars just in case.

The babies and I piced up MIL at 12. By 12:30 I was eating a chick fil-a sandwich & f4ries while driving (I usually get the nuggets if we stop, or the salad if we go in!). I managed to scarf 2 muffins and some pasta with dinner (even though I had atkins food on the table--a baked chicken!). By 7pm I was cleaning hte kitchen and managed to eat 3 (yes, 3) packs of mini chips ahoy (the little lunchbox packs, but still!) I usually won't touch them, but I munched through three packs without even thinking.

MIL is a nice lady, but can drive you seriously nuts after the first 15 minutes--I was finishing the last pack of cookies when I realized I wasn;t even tasting or enjoying them, just munching right through.

So, I got up today witha new awareness, andwill try to be extra vigilant! (And, I sent DH out with his mom for the day :)

Happy losing, everyone!

Samantha

P.S. I weighed myself this morning, and still kept off my hard won 3 lbs ! :)

Note to self...stay away from Samantha's MIL! ;)

Today is a new day...I hope you do well!!!

WOW! How long will your MIL be staying with you?

When she goes home just start induction again. How great you haven't gained any weight back.

I hear you!! My downfall has always been eating to compensate for stress or aggravation. My aunt gave me the advice to stop using food as a reward, but I'm going to have to work out for myself how to go about changing that. Still, my focus has changed to make sure that I don't let myself get hungry at stress times, and keep tempting things away from me. Try chugging a glass of water when you find your control slipping, and see if that gives you an edge.

And sending the source of your stress away was a brilliant strategy!

You know, it's not what life throws at us that's important, it's how we respond. Being aware of your triggers gets you one step closer to controlling them, so good for you!

I hear you Samantha, I used to stress eat all the time. I'd stuff my face with whatever was at hand! Joining WISH really helped me to overcome this. I finally realised that there were always going to be stressful situations in life, it's how you deal with them that counts. I didn't want to be overweight anymore, and I knew that if I wanted to get the weight off then I needed to overcome emotional eating. I don't want to say that I am totally cured but I have had several very stressful situations this year I have dealt with them much differently than I would have previously.

Good luck to you in dealing with your stess eating, and your MIL!

Hey recognizing that you are a stress eater is half the battle! Good for you! and knowing your MIL causes this thats another point in your favor! Now have "munchies on hand" for when this may happen again. Celery with seasoned whipped cream cheese in them, Tuna fish salad wrapped in romaine lettuce leafs, Buffalo Wings, 1oz cheese packs(they come in lots of nifty shapes) deviled eggs, if you like em pork rinds, Oh and make a batch of these http://disboards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=439683
This recipe is from right here on our wish board in the eating healthy section and they are yummy!
Good Luck
Sue

thanks for the support! One more day to go!!! I am focusing on not gaining anything, and really keeping an eye on what I am munching on w/o thinking!!! Back on track tomorrow!!!

Oh, I know what you are going through.
We had family in town around the Easter Holiday and I snacked my way through the visit. Ugh.
Somethings that help....
- keep your water glass close, make sure you get your 8 glasses a day
- take the time for your workouts

Family always brings out the worst in my eating habits, but hang in there.
Wish me luck, we have family in town next week.

Well, she's gone, and I feel better already! The damage--2 of the lbs I lost have returned, BUT it could have been a lot worse if I hadn;t realized the MIL/food connection almost at once! I loved your suggestions, by the way--I packed my babies into the double stroller and walked for at least an hour each day! It got me out of the house, and was a little workout, too!

Thanks as always for your support :D

Samantha
