Wow...Outrage over Stroller Rental Price Increase...What's that About?

How can you argue with cats, biscuit's, or ovens!!!! C'mon! Come over to the dark-side EJ!!! We're not talking about an entitlement society here, just ticked that the turkey leg might have to go out of some peoples trips due to the price increases ;)

That depends, do you have cookies? :lmao:

I'll take some chocolate-chip cookies, and on ripe banana, and if we're on the Dark Side where is Darth Vader :scared1:

I would say that what I consider "fair" and "unfair" is based on objective business standards in a free-market society though. .....quoted by ELTON JOHN

OK. ELTON JOHN.......this is my take on your fair assessment. I understand that Disney can charge what they want and that basically if I have a problem with the increase that I should just not rent the stroller or ECV. Now that being said......I feel that Disney is taking advantage of a product that they have. That is where the uprising is originating from.......even when GAS Prices started going thru the roof, the government will control the price but no allowing for substantial increase at one time. Only a gradual increase. What we feel to be unfair is agreed upon by the GOVERNMENT that you continue to refer too. So granted the Government is not going to do anything about it. But we as a consumer can show our displeasure. When you have a problem with something, sometimes venting is the best way to get over it. Might we as Disney fans accepted the price of $31 or $45 with gradual increases to that amount. I believe so, its just the Principal of the fact that something goes from being $18 one day to $31 the very next day with very little warning......Even gas prices will go up $0.05 a day maybe and we are told why this is being done. Disney has yet to justify their stance as to why the made the increase. Just because they have not raised prices in 3 years is not enough of an excuse to accept and that is what is being voiced amongst the boards. I think even you can agree that the increase itself is out of control and in the free society that you speak of, we have the right to voice our displeasure, just as you have the right to voice yours. but to continue dragging this out and continuing to quote fictional sources is not needed. We are expressing our views and not the views of other people and maybe if you had more self confidence in being able to represent yourself you would not need to quote other people to get your point accross and would be able express yourself and your own ideas rather than that of others. Rather than stirring things up maybe you should just bring your own personal thoughts to the table and not that of some Unofficial Guide Person.....I guess that is why he is the Unofficial Guide. An Official Guide would embody the thoughts of the man with the dream.....:worship: >WALT DISNEY.........:thumbsup2

Wow. I write well-reasoned rebuttels to your arguments and all you can come up with is an ad-hominem attack? :confused3 How about coming up with some logical arguments instead of reverting to the behavior of a child? BTW, look at my post count.

Oh, good grief. All the tension in this thread called for a little tongue-in-cheekiness. That was my way of putting it in. Call it childish, if you wish -- but I enjoy being childish every now and then. Isn't that at the heart of everything Disney? :)

Arguing back and forth between two people who are not going to change their respective minds is pointless. We disagree.

As for your post count -- some trolls can be very active, you know.

We disagree. There are no hard feelings.

Have a good day, D.

You know what this thread needs...not cookies...but pie...
who like pie...i know i do

Sidenote, if somebody really does need an ECV due to a disability (rather than just being lazy or fat) then I'll do everything possible to help them out and get out of their way. No problem with that.

Ummmmmmmm, just wondering, how do you determine who is just lazy and who is just fat? Do you go up and ask them before getting out of their way... "Hey are you just fat or is there something really wrong with you?" ... If it seems like maybe they are just lazy, do you make them try and do a couple push ups before you get out of their way? Or do or do you need to actually need to see the disability in order not to block their path? And what if it's a fat person that has an obvious disability that you can see, will you get out of their way then or because of the fat part do you just stand right in front of them? Just wondering :confused3

how do you determine who is just lazy and who is just fat?

You don't. It's as simple as that. Though, some people don't agree.

Like the "how many months" question a lady with a pooch might get. Just because someone doesn't "look" disabled doesn't mean they aren't. I think anyone with common sense knows this.

Good point, WD.

I for one dislike all the strollers (especially the people who decide to wheel them into the stores) and ECV's, but I don't know what can be done different? Raising the prices so high seems greedy to me.

I would like to know how you determine who is fat and lazy and who is in real need. Can a hanicapped person be fat? I have been in the medical profession for 20 years and I could in no way tell if someone was "fat and lazy" as you put it or hanicapped. Please let me know how you do this?? It would save me alot of time at work.

Hey Gang

I am all for spirited debate but this thread is starting to break down into name calling and personal attacks - and that is only allowed if they are directed at Bawb (just kidding - I love Bob - go out to eat with him once a week - spend Christmas eve with him - whew, did I get those disclaimers in fast enough to stop the hate mail?).

Anyway, let's try to get this back on track and keep it to a thoughtful discussion and respect each others opinions.

I would hate to see this thread closed because of personal attacks.

Thanks
John

Tydna - I've been reading - glad some of the venom is away from me now :)

Disney Kevin and Cocwum - thanks!

3DisneyKids & Iwishfordisney - sorry to offend you so strongly

Stroller Boy - thanks

DizKids - I think you have :)

WaltD4me - good advice always!!!!

AmyHughes - too chay, or touche, or tooo shaaay, or tu-che (I have not idea how to write that).

For the record - I do not think children under 5 should be banned from the World!

Thanks to everyone, you have provided me with a ton of entertainment for the last several hours and I had a great conversation with my kids about what they do or do not remember from the past 5-7 years. Anything that brought me great time with my kids is appreciated :) All my best to all of you! You are why this podcast and site and Disney are so wonderful!

I'm more of an expert on the subject than you are, I've been fat for almost 40 years!!:lmao:

Look, I can't determine who on an ECV is just being fat and lazy, but those people know who they are.

Like I said, I don't know what you can do about it, but I am a bit tired of all the stroller and ECVs.

Not a problem I just hate to see people discriminated against. I have a person in my family who is large and handicapped and it touched a nerve. All in good debate!

No venom from me, dscott. I was just shocked at the amount of debate your post brought about.

It's all good, though.

;)

No offense taken, and none given. We both know there are people abusing the system, but there's nothing that can be done about it.

Of course, at a higher price people are less likely to abuse it.

To one and all,

Eventually, Disney is going to raise the price on something that is important to you. At that point, you will have a right to state what you wish in regards to that increase and the DIS is a wonderful forum to do just that, as long as you do so in accordance with the rules of this forum.

Using words such as stupid, lazy, fat, ingnorant, poor parenting etc moves the discussion no further ahead. As a matter of fact, it derails the discussion and makes it about something else entirely.

Just because the DIS Unplugged or the Unofficial Guide says something, it doesnt make it right or wrong. It makes it an opinion. You are welcome to agree or disagree. That is your perogative and you are welcome to state your agreement or disagreement, as long as you do it in accordance with the rules of the forum.

As for who needs a stroller, or a wheelchair, or an ECV....it's my belief that it's none of your business. The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) backs me up on that. Whether you believe the person(s) have the need to use said conveyance.....you have no right to ask or penalize said person for using it. If the use of said conveyances bothers you or you feel that it infringes on your rights, then please write to your Congressman and don't bother Disney, as they are following the law.

Now...before you tell me that a stroller is not covered by the ADA...keep in mind that any conveyance used to transport someone with a disability is indeed covered. Disney has the right to decide which conveyances fit within their framework as far as safety is concerned. They have deemed strollers, wheelchairs and ECVs fit within that framework.

If this conversation is to continue, the rules of this forum must be followed or the thread will be closed.

Kevin

DScott, thank you for checking back in and stating this. Unfortunately in my profession I have seen many debates started and the OP, or bad feeling starter, checks out. So thank you for coming back.

As for my post, that's what a good High School speech and debate team gets you. Obviously this is a point we will disagree on, me with two children under the age of 5 who will travel to the world again before they hit first grade and you who oppose this parenting technique. I am just glad that we can agree to disagree politely and respectfully.

**And for the record, the French is touche with and accent agu over the final vowel.

Amy
