Trying to book rooms for NYE for 12/30 - 1/2'ish and there's practically no TPV rooms available at all for the Poly or Contemporary. Looks like I'm going to have to just sit and keep monitoring daily for awhile.

I'm wondering if the rooms just haven't come available yet - tried checking through Expedia too but their reservations are currently only through middle of December.

I would play around with your dates if you can. There are TPV rooms available at CR if you check in on 12/26 and stay 7 nights. There are also TPV rooms available for your dates at GF. Perhaps book standard at Poly and just watch from the beach? If you move your dates a little earlier, TPV Atrium Club is available at CR. We've already booked, but we are going 12/28 - 12/31, watching the fireworks on 12/30.

I'm sure they are not 100% booked from now till 12/31.
I've booked TPV at CR the past 2 years and we never plan our trip to Disney until we see what the bowl game situation will be. I've always found a room

There's some weird best fit algorithm going on here - if I try to book 12/30-1/4 there's PLENTY of rooms available (starting at $655 a night!) but as you go down to 12/30 - 1/3 then 12/30 - 1/2 the rooms drop off dramatically

Yeah - at some point they have to release the rooms though - The question is... when? :)
I guess close to the actual dates because that's when I start to see more and more rooms open up.
We don't plan far out trips often at all. Usually less than 60 days. And we book quite a few short stays/split stays. Most of the time, we are able to find a room without trouble

And here I thought this would be the easy part and getting the Ohana reservations on NYE would be the trick! :)

If you see the room you want available for a longer stay call Disney to book. I wanted a theme park view room at the Contemporary over the last NYE for a short stay and experienced the same thing as you. I told them I could see the room was available for dates longer than my stay so the room was truly available. They had to escalate to another department to bypass the lock they put on the rooms to prevent orphan rooms and I got the room booked. I wouldn’t wait, the chances it’ll ever show up are slim and with Star Wars opening things will definitely go fast.

It's definitely an algorithm but it's not anything weird. It's a practice known as Revenue Management and it's something done by virtually every hotel on the planet.

Without getting into too much detail, Revenue Management basically saves rooms for guest staying for multiple nights by instituting stay controls. The easiest stay control to understand is the minimum stay. The simplest example is Las Vegas.

Given the proximity of Las Vegas to the 23 million people living in Southern California, it's almost a given that all the major hotels will sell out every Saturday night far in advance. In order to maximize their revenue, hotels will require guests to stay 2 or 3 nights in order to make a reservation.

Without question, Revenue Management is good for hotels. But, it's also beneficial for any guest that stays more than one night. If Disney didn't use it, guests wanting a longer stay would have difficulty finding a room unless they book super-far in advance because Florida residents would theoretically grab most of the inventory on short weekend stays.

There are other more complex stay controls that are used. Additionally, many hotels use rate controls, as well. For example, if you book a multi-night stay, you might get a discount. But, someone staying 1 night might have to pay the full rate.

Note: I worked as a Revenue Manager in two different hotels. I also worked at the Disney Reservations Center in Orlando...but not in a role that directly involved Revenue Management.

Ugh - this is moronic.

So I called and there's no way they'll reduce the stay of those rooms - I MUST book a 5 day minimum block. - BUT - I'm allowed to modify the stay later to the days I want "for free" so I can do that later, which defeats the entire purpose of trying to not orphan the rooms!

Try calling back and talk to someone else. They will definitely cut the room nights to get you what you need

I dunno - she went off to talk to guest services for awhile and was told "no" - Also it looks like you can no longer just "drop nights" from a reservation as the room has to be rebooked as a new reservation - so if these rooms don't get released to nightly rooms then I'd be stuck with the whole 5 days

I do see Contemporary TPV available for 12/3-1/2....for $875/night.

I just wouldn’t accept that no. It isn’t a special or a package where a minimum night stay is required. The room is available, they are just trying to hold onto it to get more nights booked. It is no against Disney policy to have short stays. I had them override my NYE room to give me the nights I needed. I would try again. Mention how the room is available and no where on the website does it say this hotel requires a certain number of nights
