Ok, so the new pricing scheme finally came up on the WDW site................
The pricing for a 1 day ticket is pretty straight forward..........you select a 1 day ticket.......then you're prompted to select a day. Now the calendar breaks down what days are value, regular, and peak. The break down is what most expected..........June and July and the holidays are peak times..........September is a value.......and most is just regular. I found it interesting that the price they put below the setting on the calendar is the Epcot/HS/AK value..........not the more expensive MK price.
Where this all gets a bit confusing is when you selecting a timeframe longer than a 1 day ticket.....but I guess it really doesn't
A 7 day ticket for 3 adults and 1 child came to $1460 which is $52/day. You do that an add a park hopper and the price is $1736 which is $62/day..........that's $10/day more per person for a hopper.........maybe I was wrong and it is clear...........but wait................there was no calendar question? So there's no calculation for visits that fall between regular and peek, or value and regular? The days only matter when you buy a 1 day ticket?..............Really.............
While you contemplate that (I realize the answer isn't all that confusing), I had pricing information for our November trip with my brother and his family. Now my wife and I will have AP's for this trip......(and NO the AP price didn't change
) so we're not impacted. My brother will be. So on Sept 27th 2015 a 7 day hopper plan for 3 adults and 1 child came to a total of $1678.46 with tax. That same setup today on February 28th 2016 is $1848.86 with tax. That is a 9.3% increase by my calculation or $170.40........ Seems like a big bump percentage wise. I know, when you look at over the total cost of a 7 day trip to WDW.........is $170 that big a deal
?
So back to my question about how they handle the price increase across periods............A one day ticket to the MK on a peek day is $124...........on a regular day $110.........that's about a 12% bump to a peak time...........against regular time. Its bigger going from value to peak, but the only timeframe I saw that was even possible was in March when the 1st thru 3rd are value times, the 4th thru 9th are regular......and the 10th thru the end of March is peak (spring break). What I believe WDW is doing is spreading the price increase across multiple days using some algorithm
that takes into account the folks who will visit during all time periods and spreads an increase across their trip.............Now they don't explain it...........but that's gotta be it right?
How else do you explain a 9.3% increase for 7 day hopper tickets............
..........magic........right?
So what do I think...........(not that it really matters
)? This one is gonna really piss families off........or will it? This is really going to piss Florida residents off..........or will it? I don't really know. In the end it looks like it impacts locals (without AP's) and spontaneous day trippers. In the end its a PRICE INCREASE across the board...........most folks who visit Disney World do so for more than 1 day........which means they buy multi-day tickets. Given Disney just went and raised that pricing structure....without explanation..........makes it look like a plain old price increase to me. The tiered pricing is in the multi-day tickets somewhere but it isn't obvious.........
So IMHO this just pisses everyone off
. But I know it won't stop me from going..........will you stop going?
