Wow, Member Homecoming 5/25-27!!!!

At first, I was excited to read this :bounce: :Pinkbounc

Thinking, we will be there anyway for DS 5th birthday!
BCV-2 BR.

Then, the details, the tickets!
We, too, have APs.
Oh well, at least WDW management is starting to recognize us DVCers for something.
Maybe in the future they will have an "event only" option.
Until then....keep wishing!
And if I dont get back in time
MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR! to our fellow DVCers:wave: :teeth:

Well, add me to the list of those who won't be changing travel dates due to the inclusion of park passes. We have rooms reserved for the weekend following this event, and would have certainly considered moving it up a few days. But it's just not worth $300 per person for the few hours of exclusive park access. I just bought AP vouchers a few weeks ago.

I just hope that demand is high enough to warrant additional events in the future.

If it's anything like the press events, they will have buffet style tables out in areas of the park where you can pick up different types of food. It's pretty cool, and should be nice and uncrowded, but we're AP holders. It stinks, as we're already going to be there for our 10th anniversary! I plan to e-mail MS tonight.

I was so excited about this! Talked to DH tonight and we both thought heading to WDW in May sounded like a wonderful way to start the summer. However, like many of you, we have AP's. Looks like we have to rethink these plans. I agree that $300 is way too much extra to spend when you already have park admission.

Bummer.

i actually think this would be a good idea.
i don't know for sure if they would give us a discount, or create separate event tickets for each night.
BUT, at least it would make MS aware of just how many of us are AP holders.

sometimes it really seems like DVC management has NO grasp of what kind of people DVC members actually are. *sigh*

Even if you don't have park admission, I think it is a little steep. We just got back from WDW and a two day UMP was just slightly over $100 (these don't even have all the perks of UMP).

That means we would be paying almost $200 for an Illumination Dessert Buffet (Been there done that - not impressed); E-night at WDW; one dinner and one lunch. Please correct me if I left something out.

The only thing I find appealing is getting to meet other DVCers.

At least the member cruise was comparable (almost) in price to other cruises.

Just my opinion.

I was excited about this event too at first as we will be at WDW from May 23-27 following our Disney cruise. We are not AP holders but I was hoping that they would sell an events only ticket too as we really prefer spending more time at our home resort, BCV, than in the parks and we still have days left on our old PHP. And with leaving on the 27th, we might not get to take advantage of the activities at SSR on the last day. I plan to call MS this week and see if the PHP must be used during those 3 days. If so, I'm not sure we'll take advantage of it even though we'll be there. There will be 4 of us--19 years old & older--so that amounts to $1196, which is pretty steep considering you may not get to attend or even want to attend all of it. I will also let them know that our family would like individual tickets for the events even though we are not AP holders.

I'm thinking that there will probably be some special gifts exclusive to those who attend. (Along the lines of the limited edition Cardew teapot on the member cruise.) Even so, I'm not sure it's worth the price.

:(

As others have, we also sent our e-mail expressing our dissappointment with the lack of event only tickets. Maybe with enough feedback something will happen....

We are also AP and can't justify the expense. Fortunately, we will be at DLR and aren't tempted to change our plans considering the steep price. I'm predicting a change in the plan right after December 17th when the phones don't exactly ring off the hook. For the Member Cruise they dropped the $75 booking fee before the call in date due to e-mails, phone calls, and probably this board.

We need to let them (DVD) know we need more notice. Guides also just learned of this event.

In one of the Association Meetings it was said that only 15% of DVC owners are Ap holders. I was surprised at that number.

Again let them know our feelings as I believe they listen.

2 more AP holders here so we sent an email right away yesterday after reading the details. Can take 2 days to get a response and no one seems to have an answer that I've talked to so far down here at WDW in response to any of the above questions that I have read.

Well I sent an email, but I don't expect to hear back!

Here's their response to my email:

Hi Beth,
Thank you for your email about Disney Vacation Club Member Homecoming Event scheduled for Tuesday, May 25, 2004 - Thursday, May 27, 2004. The Member Homecoming Event is an all-inclusive package and there is no discount for Annual Passholders. For more information on this event, please visit our web site at www.dvcmember.com click on Member News then click on Member Perks.
Have a Disney day.
Diane

FWIW - I said nothing about a "discount for AP holders" but, rather, separate pricing for "event-only" attendees - for those <i>such as AP holders</i>, who already have park admission.

So exactly what <i>IS</i> a "Disney Day," Diane?!?

I just got my homecoming thing in the mail today.

We already have a trip planned for the week after.

Even though my daughters are already out of school for the summer then, we coudln't go anyway as that is the week of dance recitals.

I think the price is high, too? It includes park admission for two days, but we'll have annual passes. I woudl think many DVC members woudl already ahve annual passes.
Noen of it sounds that great to me anyway, except for the private Spectro! I wonder what meal they will serve in the MK that night? Sounds fun.

I didn't even realize we'll be at WDw shortly after SSR opens. We'll be at BWV. It will be nice to ride over and check it out!

[I asked about] separate pricing for "event-only" attendees....
I guess that's their answer; "all-inclusive package".

And Shan, earlier Scott H quoted Disney that only 15% of DVCers have APs - not enough of us to merit consideration  .

When you all send out the e-mails to member services, do you include your member # too?

Anyone care to post a "sample" e-mail here so that more people would be motivated to e-mail member services about this matter?

I wonder exactly how "limited" the capacity is? How many tickets do they usually sell to after hour events like this?

I wonder if they really will sell out for this event? Every member would have to make a special trip for it. Those that can most easily go on such short notice (FL residents, CMs, and AP holders) will usually already have their park passes.

On the other, Disney certainly knows how to milk that cash cow. I have a feeling that there might be enough DVC Disney fanatics, I mean enthusiasts, :teeth: to pay the high price in order to not miss out on the event.

That's not to say that they won't be complaining about the costs the whole time! And they will probably be the same ones to also proclaim to all what a great time they had when they get back!

Tempting, oh so tempting.... now why couldn't they have this event after our APs actually expire? :(
