Wow, low wait times on anniversary day!

I also wonder if Disney’s recent trend of publishing over estimated wait times played in.
We entered Pirates with a posted time of 50 minutes & ended up taking 10. We didn’t stop walking til we were at the loading CM. And even then we only waited for that boat to pull away so we could go into the loading area.
My longest waits all day were Jungle Cruise at rope drop and then both rides on SDMT, at 15 minutes. SDMT said 40 min once and 45 the second time, both took 15.
Peter Pan said 30 when I walked up and looked like it might've been close to that, but I got pixie dusted and got to walk right on.

Ride wait times were amazing! We walked on so many rides. Only real wait was Jungle Cruise. Even mine train we were on in 8 mins.

We did not wait in any merch or popcorn lines and we're fine with watching Fireworks from Liberty Square bridge...because we were going on rides until 10 min prior.

We did join virtual queue for Big Top in the evening, got what we wanted.

Why is everyone so surprised? I read post after post on these boards and NOBODY planning to be in MK on Oct 1 was planning to go on rides. It was all about “soaking in the atmosphere” and watching fireworks. Is iy really that shocking people did what they said they were going to do?

I looked at wait times for fun and was shocked at how short they were in all parks.
In MK, I suspect many were in line for merch, waiting for special shows or camping out for a special spot for the evening show.
I was really surprised watching one video where the opening show for the 50th anniversary was just the normal castle show. They couldn't do something special after all the hype?

Yeah they pretty much did nothing special from what I assume they will be doing for the next 18 months, no mention of the day anywhere other than they handed out some free castle prints on the way out. The wait times were also over-posted on the app, thunder mountain said 25 in the afternoon (not even before right before fireworks or anything) and I waited 5. Got a spot for the fireworks just after 7 and it filled quickly after that.

Their big celebration was the night before. The rededication ceremony for the MK, various dignitaries (including Chapek) a performance by Christina Aguilera and the premier of Enchantment was done after the park closed and was only seen in person by invited guests.

I know I said that because I thought wait times would be insane. I was happily wrong and ended up doing rides all day.

Though, this is why I hate TPs crowd predictor. I know it is solely based on wait times, and I know they say that. But it was horribly inaccurate for actual crowds yesterday, completely packed everywhere... except for rides.

A rational response to a virtual queue to a gift shop would be to go on a ride, but people aren’t rational.

Which is totally crappy for regular guests. At least throw us some kind of bone. Elitist BS.

Looking at wait times today seems to be repeat of same low waits. Anyone in park to say whether it’s same issue with merchandise lines eating crowd or did the 50th not hit as hard as we were expecting?

I know its been mentioned, but I really think a lot of it has to do with all rides running at full capacity and fully staffed. Along with there not being any kind of fastpass/lightning lane (I know that part has been true all year). But even compared to my July trip, the ride lines just seem to be moving a whole lot faster than normal.

Do they really limit ride capacity on a daily basis? If so, I can see them deliberately doing it to increase the appeal for genie+.

There are certain attractions with multiple tracks or theaters and Disney may not run all of them when the parks are not crowded. They shorten park hours during slower times, which restricts the overall throughput for the day on all attractions. They remove ride vehicles (boats, rollercoaster trains and cars) on attractions to decrease throughput.

I don't know if they would do any of those things to deliberately drive up standby queues in order to make Genie+ look more attractive.
