okay, I was keeping up with this thread, but lost track. How are gas prices today compared to when this thread started??? I still have my pile ready, just haven't had the time to take the photo and get to FedEx.

OK, I'm a little confused. I have 4.5 oz (on my kitchen scale!) of gold. I just can't quite figure out how to translate all of this into $. I want to have some idea before I send it off how much it might be worth.

Math is NOT my strong suit! LOL

If it's averages out to be mostly 14K...I'd guestimate about $1300. It could be as high as $2,000 if it were all 22K or as low as $700 if it's 8K. In any case, you would probably get about a 10% better payment if you had another 1/2 ounce to reach the 5oz mark. Maybe pool with a relative?

USGB is accustomed to dealing with bulk gold--5 oz or more. I'm guessing they discount smaller amounts about 20% or so (could be a bit more or less). Small amounts require the same labor and processing as larger amounts. You'll also need to factor purity into the equation--and you won't know that until they test it. They do seem to be paying a bit more than GF, though, regardless of weight.

USGB deducts 10% if it's under 5 Troy oz. I called today to double check because I'm right on the border of the 5oz. Fed Ex just picked it up, so we'll see...

Thanks for letting me know. I called USGB twice and both times dealt with very nice people, but it sounds like I lucked out. I did end up going with them, so we'll see...I'm hoping to hear from them tomorrow.

I got my offer today (sent out to GF late thurs.) I didn't have alot to send, much of it turned out to not be gold/silver.

All pcs were broken (or ugly!) so I did good. (of couse I hoped for more )

They are sending the pcs that were'nt real back, so then I'll better know what they kept.

I sent about and ounce and a half of 14k gold items today. This is how I am doing my Vegas gambling ahead of time (since we are going to Vegas in 2 days). I will just roll the dice and wait and see.

So I send my gold to USGB 2 days before we leave for Vegas. I called to confirm that they received it the day we left for Vegas. But you know how that goes, no time to call USGB and ask at this point. Because I think they were going to send me an email, but no access, so I figure I better call. Well the next time I thought about it was 2 days into our Vegas trip, when we were at that Grand Canyon. And of course no cellphone service there, at least for my carrier. Anywho that was on a Friday so by the time we got back to where I could use my cellphone it was too late. Soooooo had to wait until Monday morning. So yes, I found out that they did receive and estimate and had tried to contact me to let me know they wanted to send $421 and change. So, I said SOLD! A couple pieces were 10k and it didn't quite weigh 1.5 ounces. But for stuff that was broken and from the "ex" it worked out well. According to USGB I should have my check by Friday.

Can anyone give me an estimate of the weight of my items. Our post office is backed up nightmare everytime you go, and I really don't feel like standing in line to weigh my stuff.


I've got one ladies' class ring, one Mother's ring, one thin ladies' wedding band, a very thin bracelet, one small gold nugget charm, two small tiny (child sized) hoop earrings, and 5 squooshed add-a-beads. I know it's not much. Just wondering if anyone may could guestimate for me.

I took three pairs of very light (hollow) broken earrings, two very thin chain bracelets, a wedding band (I never knew where it came from in the first place) and a beaded necklace with squished beads. Most was only 10k so I was thrilled with my $205!

I just got back from USGB in NYC. The first time I got almost $1500 this time it was $130. More for Disney..I did bring my girlfriend and she got $1000 so all in all a good trip!!

Sent my gold to GF yesterday late afternoon, arrived at 11:20 this morning and settlement was just posted.

I have now tried both USGB and GF - about 18 pennyweights to each place - not much at all

I received $211.00 from USGB

I recieved $265.00 from GF with Disboard credit applied.

My advice, definitely go with GF if you have small amounts!
