WOW - I just sold my old gold........

thanks for posting this. I just rummaged through my jewelry box and found some gold pieces I don't want anymore. I contacted Goldfellows and am waiting for my Fed Ex mailer to arrive. Question....where do I enter that I heard about them from Disboards? I want to get the 10% discount too!

Can someone share how I contact Goldfellows? I'm still trying to figure out which to choose (goldfellows vs. usgold), but I don't know how to contact goldfellows.

TIA!:)

Okay, I used usgoldbuyers and had a good experience. The goldfellow guy seems like a nice enough guy and from what I've read, people are also having a good experience using him.

I am no math expert, but I decided to compare the payouts for 14k based on what both websites are offering.

Goldfellow:
paying $14.08 per dwt if less than 1 oz; paying $15.48 per dwt if 1-5 oz.
factor in that he appears to be offering an additional 10% for dis'ers

usgoldbuyers:
pays $27.70 per dwt for 5-50 oz.; when I called, I was told that I would receive 10% less, if I had less than 5 oz.

Sample 1:
.8 oz of 14k gold = 16 dwt
Goldfellow: 16 x 14.08 = 225.28 (+ 22.50 if in fact he is giving an additional 10% to dis members) = $247.80
usgoldbuyers: 16 x 27.7 = 443.32 - 44.32 (10% less b/c under 5 oz) = $398.88
goldfellow payout $247.80 vs. usgoldbuyers payout $398.88

Sample 2:
3.0 oz of 14k gold = 60 dwt
Goldfellow: 60 x 15.48 = $928.80 (+ possible 10% more? of 92.88) = 1021.68
usgoldbuyers: 60 x 27.7 = $1662 - 166.2 (10% less b/c under 5 oz) = 1495.80
goldfellow payout $1021.68 vs. usgoldbuyers payout $ 1495.80

Hope that helps someone! :)

I'm quoting myself here. I posted this a few days ago, but for those wondering, it seems clear to me that usgoldbuyers pays quite a bit more even when factoring in the additional 10% goldfellow is offering.

I'm pretty sure that it was mentioned to put it on the envelope. I think I will also put it on the "inventory" sheet as well.

We saw a story on the local news last night about a place buying gold near us. DH went through some of his pieces and we took everything up there today. We got $600!! More Disney money for us!

THANKS so much for this thread!!! I NEVER In a million thought I'd be such a DISNEY GUY!!! Now it's the place I'd rather be. Since my DW left her career to stay home with my DS it has been a little challenging financially. I have been trying to come up with a way to get some extra to go to Disney this September. I saw this post and the wheels started to spin....hehehe..
When I handed my wife a plastic bag and asked her to go through her old jewelry...she told me I've totally LOST IT!!! I convinced her to at least give it a try....will keep reading the posts and update...
AGAIN...great idea...and thank you!!!!

They called me this morning. Thanks again. I got more than I thought I would!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

You might want to see if there are some local numismatic clubs. They may recommend some dealers over others. As with everything discussed in this thread, have your coins evaluated by more than one dealer. Also, check on the internet to see how condition is defined and if there are any online dealers who would provide a preliminary quote based on photos. Nothing binding, but it might give you some idea of the value.

I know just enough about the subject to be dangerous! My mother was the person with the knowledge! *LOL*

You can look up most any coin on eBay and see what they are bringing. Of course the condition of the coin plays a big part in the pricing, but at least you can see what the minimum and maximum prices are. My husband has been collecting coins since he was six. He is not a dealer per se, but he buys coins, sometimes whole collections, and scrap jewelry, too. I just stumbled across this thread and have been amazed after reading a few pages. It's sort of sad to see people parting with their collectibles, but I guess if the jewelry or coins are nothing the individual is truly interested in, it's smart to convert the items to cash.

Just seeing these two replies now.
Thank you both.
I will check into it and let you know!

My question, I have some silver but its not stamped so I dont know if its real or not, will Goldfellows etc...check this out? And is stirling considered real silver (I know nothing about jewelry!)

Sterling is 92.5% silver and it is almost always marked either "sterling" or "925."

Are you guys going to pawn shops or actual jewelry stores? I think I would be afraid to go to a pawn shop in fear of being ripped off.:confused3

Where are you guys going? Jewelry stores in malls or pawn shops? I am afraid of getting ripped off by some pawn shop guy:confused3

I noticed the sites take Silver as well..whats the going rate on gold vs silver?

Wish I would have bought more gold and silver when I was in Saudi in the early 90s!!

Has anybody sold any of their gold on ebay? I was looking at some listings of scrap gold on there and they were selling for quite a high price. Just curious.
