WOW - I just sold my old gold........

I just went to a local jeweler and got a price for my old gold. They offered $680 for stuff I knew for sure I wanted to sell, and $136 for stuff I am not sure about selling yet. Seemed like a good price, but I may try usgold like others on here if they are really paying that much more. Thinking about goldfellow also. Can't decide which one to do! I here the usgold pays better, but if goldfellow is truly paying the 10% more for Dis'ers it may be worth it. But how would I know if they were really giving me 10% more, or just saying that?

When you see your settlement online, you can see that they are giving you the next price level up from the weight you sent in.

I just came back from going to Goldfellow. They have an office in Weston, FL but mostly do it through the mail. I met Michael there. He runs it with his family. I guess he used to own a LARGE business in Florida and sold it. I am assuming he used his own assets to start Goldfellow but now it is really taking off. He was really friendly and I got a great feeling being there.

I brought in some old chains, mostly broken and a few gold rings from old high school boyfriends and one of those xo bracelets. There were some other odds and ends in it I think. I got $514.00!!! I was pretty excited, I didn't really expect much at all.

If you tell him that you heard about Goldfellow on the DIS then he'll give you an extra 10%, basically the next price tier up.

On Goldfellow's website they post the amounts they pay per pennyweight (I think that's the measurement) each day. If you have between X-Y amounts it's a certain amount per 10K, 14K etc. Then between Y-Z amounts it's slightly higher. He is paying you in the next step up from the amount that you actually have. It ends up being equal to 10%.

When I was there he showed me the tier that they post online for today and then showed me how on my spreadsheet I was paid in the next category up from the actual weight I had.

Does that make sense?

I'm glad you were able to meet them & got a good feeling. He told me pretty much the same in the emails he has sent me.

That's what I meant, but you did a much better job of explaining it! I could see it on the settlement page that he was paying the next tier up. It even says Disboards

Thanks for this info :thumbsup2 on this subject. I have decided to look in my drawers and jewelry box for old pieces.

Okay, I used usgoldbuyers and had a good experience. The goldfellow guy seems like a nice enough guy and from what I've read, people are also having a good experience using him.

I am no math expert, but I decided to compare the payouts for 14k based on what both websites are offering.

Goldfellow:
paying $14.08 per dwt if less than 1 oz; paying $15.48 per dwt if 1-5 oz.
factor in that he appears to be offering an additional 10% for dis'ers

usgoldbuyers:
pays $27.70 per dwt for 5-50 oz.; when I called, I was told that I would receive 10% less, if I had less than 5 oz.

Sample 1:
.8 oz of 14k gold = 16 dwt
Goldfellow: 16 x 14.08 = 225.28 (+ 22.50 if in fact he is giving an additional 10% to dis members) = $247.80
usgoldbuyers: 16 x 27.7 = 443.32 - 44.32 (10% less b/c under 5 oz) = $398.88
goldfellow payout $247.80 vs. usgoldbuyers payout $398.88

Sample 2:
3.0 oz of 14k gold = 60 dwt
Goldfellow: 60 x 15.48 = $928.80 (+ possible 10% more? of 92.88) = 1021.68
usgoldbuyers: 60 x 27.7 = $1662 - 166.2 (10% less b/c under 5 oz) = 1495.80
goldfellow payout $1021.68 vs. usgoldbuyers payout $ 1495.80

Hope that helps someone! :)

Thanks for the great info. I have some scrap gold and a few items with some stones. I think we are going to go to two jewelry stores, and then check out the two mail in places. Thanks again!

I got my goldfellow's kit today and will ship tomorrow. I will let you know about my experience with them. Thanks OP :)

Michelle

OK, so now I am a nervous wreck. I am waiting for Fed Ex to bring my shipping supplies. Decided to go with usgoldbuyers. Convinced DH to add a ring, necklace, and bracelet to the collection. Keeping my fingers crossed that all goes well! Would be great to get $1000 (could be wishful thinking I know).

Great info, thanks.

It's starting to sound like the local jewelers pay out less because they're the 'middlemen' who ALSO sell to the online people....right?

Can I ask why you chose usgoldbuyers instead of goldfellow? I'm thinking of using one of them and can't decide!? :confused3

Just sent my gold off with FED EX! Sent it to US Gold Buyers. We will see what happens!:yay:

FEDEX is coming tomorrow for a pick-up...too late for today.
I am using US Gold Buyers, too.

I don't have a scale.....I'm going crazy looking at my jewelry box!!!

I have a 14k gold and diamond bracelet that was purchased in 2003 at a mall jewelry for $555. I'm thinking........is it worth that or more with how high gold is??? I know the jewelry markup is huge......but could I break even for something I never wore???

I just looked up 2003 gold prices......$380 per oz!!!!:cool1: OH MY GOD.....maybe I could get more than what I paid for that bracelet in my PP!!! I'm an optimist......

I was also going through USGold Buyers but when I called Federal express they told me I had to put the shpiping charges on MY Credit card, the info I read said that US Gold Buyers pays to send items to them so how did you guys do it? Maybe I got a wrong answer. Thanks! Lisa

The way I read it is that they reimburse your shipping fees, but you've got to pay it up front.

I called usgoldbuyers and they gave me a link, which provided instructions as well as their fed ex account #. I did not have to pay for the fed ex.
